Activities at Cookridge Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Laura Marshall

Head Activities Coordinator (on Maternity leave)

My name is Laura and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Cookridge Court. I have worked in care since 2014 and get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness. We have created a wonderful culture within our home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active and ensure we all know each residents' preferences so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. The strong relationships we build with our residents, their families and friends is essential to our homely feel.

Life at Cookridge Court Care Home

Residents have been loving the Euros!

Sunday night Cookridge Court cheered on our favourite team throughout the euros. Our home has been decorated with flags, as we enjoyed all the football action from the past three weeks.

After a brilliant performance of Gareth’s boys in the semi-final match against Denmark, we were all very excited to watch the final of the UEFA Euro 2020 against Italy at Wembley Stadium.

Unfortunately, it was not the result we wanted but we supported and cheered England’s players during the fantastic final and we all raised a glass of fizz to congratulate them on getting to the final. It was a lovely experience, enjoyed by all.

Archery club is back!

Residents and staff are delighted to welcome back our indoor Archery classes.

Our residents got their game faces on - it was competition time of who could score the highest. Everyone had brilliant morning with a high number of bullseyes been hit.

Here at Cookridge Court we love adapting activities to tailor everyone’s requests - not everyday you get to hit bullseye indoors.

It's coming home..

Residents and staff were thrilled to watch the semi-final match of the UEFA European Championship between England and Denmark, even if it was a little tense!

We decorated our home with flags and banners for the special occasion. Our residents enjoyed delicious treats and refreshments as they supported England’s national team.

We all got involved in themed games, quizzes and conversations and raised a glass of fizz to congratulate England for their great win. We look forward to seeing them in the Final on Sunday and we hope it's coming home!

Icelandic adventures at Cookridge Court

Residents at Cookridge Court took a wonderful virtual trip to Iceland’s Puffin Rescue Centre at the Beluga Whale Sanctuary.

We were able to virtually meet some of the rescued Atlantic Puffins and to learn interesting facts about their care and unique lives.

We took a peek into their lives in the wild, the Puffling rescue program in the Westman Islands, and how SEA LIFE Trust Beluga Whale Sanctuary’s team takes care of these charismatic little birds each day.

It was a very exciting experience, enjoyed by all.

Independence Day celebrations

Residents at Cookridge Court celebrated 4th of July in true American Style. Our home was decorated with themed flags and we hosted an American lunchtime cuisine and an Independence Day themed quiz to mark the occasion.

We enjoyed listening to some of the all-time favourite American hits, as we gathered together for classic hot dogs, burgers & macaroni cheese, followed by some refreshing beverages.

It was a wonderful day all around.
