Activities at Cookridge Court Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Laura Marshall
My name is Laura and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Cookridge Court. I have worked in care since 2014 and get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness. We have created a wonderful culture within our home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active and ensure we all know each residents' preferences so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. The strong relationships we build with our residents, their families and friends is essential to our homely feel.

Life at Cookridge Court Care Home
Come sing!
Residents across our homes and hospitals had a fantastic time with vocal coach Dan Cooper from Biiah as he led an amazing sing-a-long session for residents to enjoy.
Residents who joined the event were able to learn different techniques as they sang the famous ‘I Can See Clearly Now’ by Jimmy Cliff and ‘Here Comes the Sun’ by The Beatles.
Across our homes there were smiles and laugher all around. The session was such a success and was great for the mind, body and soul.
90-years young
Resident, Ruth celebrated her birthday in style surrounded by staff and friends in the home. Ruth had a wonderful day.
Ruth was delighted to blow out the candles on her cake especially prepared by the homes hospitality team.
Birthdays are a firm fixture in our life enrichment programme and we love recognising our residents and joining in the fun.
Inside the Factory
We had a brilliant time across our services with Harrogate Skills 4 Living as they took us on a wonderful virtual visit to their Harrogate Chocolate Factory.
Residents were thrilled to discover details about the chocolate-making process and the fascinating journey from bean to bar, all while enjoying some delicious sweet treats.
The Factory aims to employ people with learning disabilities and autism, involving them in all parts of the process, from sorting and roasting the beans to packaging and sales. The experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined this event.
Beat the Clock
We continue to celebrate a varied life enrichment programme and across our services we linked up with other Barchester care homes and hospitals up and down the country for some interactive Beat the Clock games.
Our residents truly enjoyed solving word puzzles, conundrums and mathematical problems as part of Barchester’s very own game show series.
Everyone who joined had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.
We are crowned winners!
Excitement is running high in the home where the talented hospitality team led by head chef, Sinead Ruddock have been named the winners of the annual Barchester Easter Cake competition for the North East and Scotland Division.
Each year hospitality teams from Barchester homes and hospitals up and down the country compete for the coveted Easter Cake of the Year title. The competition is run by the central hospitality team and the bar is set very high. Many of Barchester’s chefs are trained in patisserie and the Easter cake designs are very elaborate and highly technical. Competition is fierce and only the very best recipes and designs will prevail.
The fabulous cake is designed as an “A Field of Crocuses” and Inspiration came from spring, as the home have crocuses and daffodils coming into bloom in our local area. The cake is based on a traditional Victoria sponge but with a layer of black cherry instead of the tradition jam and whipped fresh cream. All the petals and leaves are hand piped butter cream, and are all edible.
Hats off!
Here at Cookridge Court we have a varied life enrichment programme and this week we had a little fun trying on different hats - styles, colours and shapes - as part of our entertainment, along with a musical memories and a sing-a-long and making our own music with different instruments.
These smiles say it all! It was an afternoon filled with song, fun and laughter and we can't wait for the next impromptu session.
