Activities at Cumberland Grange Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Gosia Maliga
I have been in the care sector since 2008, and I also have a degree in teaching. I am here to arrange and run a varied range of activities for our residents to take part in, keep them entertained and enrich their lives. From flower arranging, quizzes, arts and crafts to movies in the cinema, I try to make sure there is something for everyone here to take part in, and tailor events to suit each resident.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Cumberland Grange Care Home
Getting summer ready!
Our Head of Maintenance Bob and wonderful resident Sandy have been busy preparing our new planters for our terrace areas over the past couple of days/
Our gardener Evie will be planting an array of beautiful flowers soon, just in time for summer.
We’ll be sat out here surrounded by gorgeous blooms whilst sipping on mojitos in no time, watch this space!
DEMENTIA AWARENESS WEEK
As part of Dementia Awareness Week, we were invited along to the Dementia Awareness Information Day at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust where we met lots of wonderful nurses and charities, including Age UK Exeter and Pets As Therapy
It was a wonderful opportunity to have great, meaningful discussions and conversations with other professionals around supporting our loved ones, residents and patients who are living with Dementia.
We shared ideas on enriching the lives of those living with Dementia and spoke about ways in which we can further support each other so that as a community we can offer more to families and carers who need an extra helping hand.
It was certainly a room full of passionate people (and dogs!) and we had a lovely morning connecting with many like minded others.
We have a wonderful Memory Lane Community here at Cumberland Grange and we would love to show you around if you are considering care for a loved one! You are even welcome to come and join us for lunch during your visit to really get a good feel about life here at Cumberland.
Dementia Action Week
When Cadbury UK and Alzheimer's Research UK join forces, incredible things happen.
To mark Dementia Action Week, we have been gifted some beautiful branded memory boxes filled with retro Cadbury Chocolate Bars.
The wonderful idea behind these boxes started when Cadburys and Alzheimer’s Research UK came together to create a nostalgic experience for those living with dementia - filling each box with dairy milk chocolate with different packaging as far back as 1915 until the present day.
All of our residents here at Cumberland Grange have enjoyed tucking into lots of Cadbury’s chocolate this week whilst reminiscing!
We are very grateful to have received such a delicious gift.
INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY
On Sunday last week it was International Nurses Day, and we couldn’t let this day pass without celebrating our amazing nurses!
First up, our very own General Manager Jogie who has done so much for Cumberland in the short time that she has been with us for so far! From joining our resident activities and outings weekly, to supporting our staff and family members, she goes above and beyond every single day. Having her knowledge and experience as a fantastic nurse, Jogie brings so much to Cumberland and we are very grateful to have her.
Next, all of the incredible nurses at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust who work tirelessly for their patients. Your work does not go unnoticed. Mica our Home Services Advisor and Gosia our Head of Activities took a visit to one of the wards and delivered freshly baked cupcakes and a box of goodies (thanks chef!) to the hard working nurses on shift.
A wonderful day celebrating wonderful people!
TEA & MEMORIES
Each month some of our residents visit Isca Church for Paul Boults amazing Tea & Memories session - but this month we proudly hosted Mays session here at Cumberland Grange!
We were joined by lots of people from our wonderful community as we took a trip down memory lane, reminiscing on all things fashion from ‘back in the day’.
We enjoyed archived footage and well as outfits in person, which sparked conversation and memories!
Thank you Paul and team for another incredible Tea & Memories session.
100 LAPS for Age UK Exeter
What a wonderful afternoon! The rain held off for us and we all contributed to our goal and we SMASHED IT. 100 laps of the garden in aid of Age UK.
Well done to all of our residents, staff, family and community for helping us and joining in on the fun and dressing up for the occasion!
There’s been a lot of belly laughing and fun times had.
Thank you to the amazing Julia for singing and keeping us motivated throughout.
An afternoons work all for an amazing charity who we work closely with here in Exeter.
