Activities at Cumberland Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Gosia Andrews

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Gosia and I am the Activities Co-Ordinator here at Cumberland Grange.

I have been in the care sector since 2008, and I also have a degree in teaching. I am here to arrange and run a varied Life Enrichment Programme which is full of fun activities for our residents to take part in. We do lots of different activities here which change on a regular basis, including weekly trips out in our mini bus, flower arranging, live musical performances, arts and crafts, cheese and wine nights and so much more. We also have groups which happen every week, mostly lead by our residents, including Poetry Club, Gardening Club, Politics and Pastries, Cumberland Grange Choir and Knit and Natter.

We have monthly resident meetings where we discuss life at Cumberland Grange. We talk about the activities that we currently run, including activities that our residents would like us to incorporate into the planner.

Making wishes come true is also something that we love to do. So, if our resident has a wish, together we try our best to make that happen, because life at Cumberland is about having fun and making even more special memories.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Exercise Class with Lucas

This week we had the wonderful Lukas come in to do a fun fitness class with us.

Regular exercise not only boosts mental health but helps keeps bones, joints, muscles and ligaments strong - which is all vital for fall prevention and the wellbeing of our residents!

We recently had the privilege of sampling some local wine and cheese from The Cheese Shed, Bovey Tracey a lovely afternoon was had, leisurely grazing and socialising over some nibbles, complete with information sheets about each individual cheese.. It's safe to say there weren't many leftovers after this!

Cheers everyone for coming, and a big thank you to Ian and Ali for the fine selection.

Political History Morning

We recently enjoyed a presentation all about our political history and leaders throughout the years in light of the general election - followed by a fun quiz, music and some classic memorabilia!

The power of bubbles!

Just look at those beautiful smiles!

Some of our residents recently enjoyed a wonderful display of bubbles which was a great way to reminisce - bubbles take us back and remind us of our childhood. They are pretty, fun and mood boosting which means for people living with dementia especially, they offer an in-the-moment wholesome connection and interaction.

Our lovely Gosia is GETTING MARRIED

Today was Gosia’s last day before taking the trip to Italy to marry her love.

We can’t gatecrash the wedding so staff gatecrashed Choir this afternoon which our residents were in on.

We celebrated with bubbles, cake and a whole lot of love for our Bride to Be.

We already can’t wait to see Gosia when she’s back to hear all about the wedding!

A truly wholesome afternoon.

Dementia Information Session

Thank you so much to Gina from Exeter Dementia Action Alliance for joining us last week to deliver one of your fantastic Dementia Information sessions.

So incredibly insightful and moving.

The feeling of togetherness in this room was really powerful as we shared our own stories on how Dementia has become apart of our lives through our loved ones living with it.

Gina spoke about meaningful ways to support our loved ones living with Dementia and she shared stories and statistics. We could have sat there all day long talking about Dementia and listening to Gina, what an amazing lady!

Thank you Gina, we can’t wait to welcome you back again for another session soon.
