Activities at Cumberland Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Gosia Maliga

Activities Coordinator

I have been in the care sector since 2008, and I also have a degree in teaching. I am here to arrange and run a varied range of activities for our residents to take part in, keep them entertained and enrich their lives. From flower arranging, quizzes, arts and crafts to movies in the cinema, I try to make sure there is something for everyone here to take part in, and tailor events to suit each resident.

Easter Weekend

Easter at Cumberland Grange has been full of love, laughter, singing and dancing.

We’ve had a visit from three beautiful little chicks which have filled our home with happiness. They have now gone to their new forever home where they will fulfil a happy and wonderful life.

We had one of our favourite musicians join us for an Easter party, and we have eaten lots of delicious treats.

It has been a wholesome weekend.

Memory Lane Choir

Every Monday at 2pm, we gather together on Memory Lane to sing our favourite songs and dance the afternoon away!

Week on week we have more residents, family members and friends joining our wonderful group.

Some of our residents use to be professionally trained singers and many were part of singing groups and choirs! But you do not need to have any experience to join, everyone is welcome.

EASTER EGG DONATIONS CONTINUE

Another day, another Easter Egg donation. This time to the children’s ward at our Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

Thank you once again for everyone for supporting us with your donations so that we can make this happen - together we will make a difference to the time these precious children spend in hospital over the Easter weekend.

EASTER EGG DONATION

Yesterday, Mica our Home Services Advisor dropped off lots of donated Easter Eggs to Action for Children here in Exeter.

We want to thank every single person who donated to help make this happen. Thank you to our community, our family members, our residents and our staff for your generosity! You are all so amazing and you’re going to make this Easter even more special for many children.

Action for Children protects and supports children and young people, providing practical and emotional care and support, ensuring their voices are heard, and campaigning to bring lasting improvements to their lives.

A fantastic charity who we are honoured to support and can’t wait to work more closely with them in the future for some intergenerational sessions.

Tomorrow we will continue spreading Easter cheer by donating eggs to the children’s ward at the RD&E hospital.

HOSPITAL RADIO EXETER

Well, what an incredibly heart warming and wonderful afternoon we had last week.

Thank you SO much to Hospital Radio Exeter for joining us to broadcast from Cumberland Grange in celebration of 50 years.

Jo, resident here at Cumberland Grange was one of the first volunteers to start Hospital Radio Exeter alongside Malcolm who was with us on the day and still volunteering to this day for the charity.

To be able to give Jo this opportunity to speak on the radio once again after so many years has meant so very much to her and we are very grateful to Malcolm, Julia and Richard for making it happen.

Residents Jo, Avril and Brian and staff member Mica speak to Richard and Julia in between heart felt shout outs and song requests from residents, family members and staff.

We sang and danced the afternoon away followed by bubbles and cake. Just perfect.

A wonderful sing-a-long with Julia

Thank you to the wonderful Julia for joining us yesterday and entertaining us with your beautiful voice.

We had a great afternoon singing along and dancing to our favourite songs!

Julia will be joining us again on Sunday but with her Hospital Radio Exeter hat on along with Richard and Malcolm as they will be BROADCASTING from Cumberland Grange (recording the show ready to be released next Sunday, the 24th, 3pm-4pm). We have the absolute privilege of hosting Hospital Radio Exeter here as they celebrate 50 YEARS since starting this incredible voluntary service for the patients of the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and beyond.

Everyone can tune in to have a listen on Sunday the 24th at 3pm-4pm. Some of our amazing residents will be having a chat, including Jo one of our residents who was one of Hospital Radios first volunteers (how amazing is that!), and there will be some great songs played, too!

If anyone has any song requests and/or shouts outs please just let us know.

If you have an Alexa, just ask her to play Hospital Radio Exeter. Alternatively, if you would like to listen on your mobile you can download the app and if you want to listen online, head over to the Hospital Radio Exeter website and follow the link.

Manned totally by volunteers, we think Hospital Radio Exeter is truly magnificent and we love being apart of their journey! For anyone who wishes to donate to support the amazing work they do, head over to their website.
