Activities at Emily Jackson House Care Home

Our activities team continues to offer a wide range of activities to both mentally and physically stimulate our residents. Our activities include one to one shopping, group outings in our minibus, and regularly attending our local church and bowling club. We also enjoy the entertainment from the musicians who come and visit us as well as our PAT dog. We have a range of activities so residents with all abilities and talents can join in activities and social gatherings. We encourage families and volunteers to share the joy with us by taking part in our social events as well.

Life at Emily Jackson House Care Home

Armistice Day

On Saturday 11th November,  we commemorated the signing of the Armistice Day agreement on the day that the guns finally fell silent. Our residents joined the rest of the nation in holding a two minute silence on the eleventh hour on the eleventh day, of the eleventh month.

It is very important that we keep the memories of those who fought in the World Wars and the honour the contribution of everyone involved.

Earlier in the week, we enjoyed a special church service from the vicar of St Luke’s to remember and honour our veterans.

Something spooky going on at Emily Jackson House!

Residents, staff, family and friends had fun at our Halloween party on 31st October. We played games, decorated cakes, danced and enjoyed a delicious supper laid on by the catering team.

Thanks to all the staff and families that took the time to dress up and join in the fun.

And a massive shout out to local business, Life on High for donating your Halloween decorations for our party. Thank you. What amazing community spirit!!

A lovely lunch, and entertainment from June B

Thank you to all the wonderful families who joined us yesterday for lunch.

So lovely to have you all there. It was such a good afternoon!

We all enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by the catering team followed by some music from June B. (The Listening Room Music Agency).

June B had us up dancing and feeling good. There was such a great atmosphere.

Oyez, oyez, oyez!!

We were delighted to have a visit from the Sevenoaks Town Crier, Chris Conlan.

Chris is the youngest Town Crier in the country. He was very knowledgeable and fun. Residents enjoyed listening to him and learning about what he does.

What a week!

We are so proud to share we featured in the @Sevenoaks Chronicle this week for the trip we organised for Grahame to the airfield to celebrate his pilot life!

This is one of the many trips and activities we regularly organise to bring joy, happiness and enrichment to our residents lives.

In addition to this, we won a hamper in recognition of all our hard work we have been doing.

Grahame Relives his Pilot Past

Resident, Grahame Underwood had previously had a successful career as an architect and a passion for flying.  He trained first to be a glider pilot and then got his private pilot’s licence.  His family say He loved anything airplane related. Staff have been aware of this since he joined them and have been planning a special day for Grahame for a while!

Grahame, has lived at Emily Jackson for nearly a year and is loved by staff and residents alike. Knowing Grahame’s past as a Pilot, staff looked at ways they could celebrate his life and organised a trip to Biggin Hill Airfield. Grahame was able to sit back and watch the Spitfires take to the skies bringing all those memories of his pilot days flooding back.

Grahame couldn’t stop smiling, Activities Co-ordinator Paula McGill said “The smile on Grahame’s face was incredible, you could see he was so pleased to be there”

Grahame was accompanied by his wife Christine Underwood and fellow residents from Emily Jackson and neighbouring Care Home Tandridge Heights. Staff and residents were delighted to be a part of Grahame’s day as they knew how much it meant to him.
