Activities at Emily Jackson House Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Our activities team continues to offer a wide range of activities to both mentally and physically stimulate our residents. Our activities include one to one shopping, group outings in our minibus, and regularly attending our local church and bowling club. We also enjoy the entertainment from the musicians who come and visit us as well as our PAT dog. We have a range of activities so residents with all abilities and talents can join in activities and social gatherings. We encourage families and volunteers to share the joy with us by taking part in our social events as well.

Life at Emily Jackson House Care Home

A visit from Emily Jackson's great, great, great nephew!
Recently we were visited by the great, great great nephew of Emily Jackson.
Emily Jackson was a nurse who devoted her life to working with children crippled by Tuberculosis and wanted a purpose-built hospital for them. The hospital was designed in 1901 by TG Jackson, Emily Jackson's brother. It was built in William and Mary style to a butterfly plan which is very unusual for a hospital. It was originally called the Children's Hip Hospital. It is now a care home.
Originally the ends had veranda’s for wheeling the beds into the open air.
Emily Jackson House became a care home in 1994.

Visiting a local church
Near to our home, we have a wonderful church that in addition to their usual services and Holy Communion, offer lunchtime recitals every Wednesday.
There is always a wide range of musicians and singers that perform at the church. From Classical piano to a String Quartet to a Skiffle band to pop music to name but a few..
Residents braved the cold to enjoy a Christmas Concert with local singer June B. Not only was this good exercise as we walked to the church but we breathed in the fresh air and let the music lift our spirits.
It is wonderful see how the music effects everyone and they respond.

A visit from the local school children
We have been very festive at Emily Jackson House the last few weeks.
We have made mince pies and truffles. We have made Christmas cards, Christmas present labels and table decorations . We have had a mince pie tasting ( Sainsbury’s taste the difference was our favourite).
We have also enjoyed lots of live entertainment. The residents particularly enjoy seeing the children at Christmas and we have been blessed with two local school choirs coming to visit.
The children were amazing and filled us with festive cheer.
