Activities at Fairview House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators create a weekly planner that consists of a variety of activities, which caters to all residents' needs as best as possible. The most popular activities are bingo, which we host twice a week, flower arranging and weekly visits from Vinnie our pet therapy dog. Residents also enjoy minibus trips in the nicer weather and we attend a concert every month. We are also involved in the Council Well-being Team, which keeps us up-to date with upcoming events within the community and provides interesting ideas for activities we can try in the home.

Throughout the year, we host various special events, including themed open days and summer and winter fetes that people in our local communities are welcome to join us for. We also have monthly church services with Rev. Ann from Danestone Congregational Church, which is open to loved ones as well.

International Women's Day at Fairview House

Happy International Women’s Day! In recognition of the day, we commemorated the wonderful achievements of women around the world and celebrated with themed Ladies Tea Parties and a lovely talk by Fiona from Deen Divas.

Our residents took part in discussions about the role of many different women who have shaped history from Cleopatra and Boudica to Florence Nightingale and Marie Curie right through to the Queen and Mrs Thatcher.

A lovely day was had by all.

Mystery boxes

Staff at Fairview House care home have been hard at work creating mystery boxes for residents at the home to enjoy.  This inspirational idea came about because staff were thinking about those residents who are nursed in bed or prefer 1-2-1 interactions rather than group activities, so they devised a way to bring activities to those individual residents.

The mystery boxes are themed, the team at Fairview House create a different one each month.  Made up like a hamper, the boxes contain snacks and drinks relevant to the theme, a creative project for those who like crafts, themed games, activity books and facts about the chosen theme.  February’s mystery box was Valentine’s themed and contained wool to make red woollen love hearts, a Valentine’s quiz, noughts and crosses, chocolate hearts and a game of love archery where residents throw arrows to score points and win prizes.

Any excuse for a tea party!

This week we enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea session with some relaxing music as we sipped tea in fine China and devoured delicious chocolate cakes and biscuits.

It was peaceful and enjoyable afternoon.

Pancake Day at Fairview House

The first day of March was busy as we marked not only St David’s Day but also Pancake Day. Pancake Day or Shove Tuesday is the traditional feast day before the Lent on Ash Wednesday.

Our residents had a wonderful day, filled with pancake-inspired activities, they prepared homemade pancakes and decorated them with fresh fruit, berries, syrup and chocolate. It’s safe to say they went down a treat!

Thank you to Fiona who kindly put on a lovely demonstration making Scottish pancakes from scratch for all to try with their favourite toppings, from jams and syrups to strawberries and cream.

It was a fun day, enjoyed by all.

National Hot Chocolate Day at Fairview House

Residents and staff had a great time celebrating National Hot Chocolate Day!

To celebrate we decked one of our trolleys with chocolaty goodies, cream, marshmallows and powder for dusting. To top it off we even had little activity goodie bags with chocolate themed activity books and chocolate coins.

Our General Manager, Janet was delighted to try one for herself too as were many of the staff.

It was a lovely way to start a new week!

Kindness in the local community

We have started to prepare for spring time, with these beautiful daffodils, donated by the amazing charity called Somebody Cares Aberdeen. Thank you so much for the donation, we truly appreciate it! It gave great colour to a lot of our resident’s rooms!

We also attached little ‘happy notes’ to the bouquets to spread the love!
