Activities at Fairview House Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Our Activities Coordinators create a weekly planner that consists of a variety of activities, which caters to all residents' needs as best as possible. The most popular activities are bingo, which we host twice a week, flower arranging and weekly visits from Vinnie our pet therapy dog. Residents also enjoy minibus trips in the nicer weather and we attend a concert every month. We are also involved in the Council Well-being Team, which keeps us up-to date with upcoming events within the community and provides interesting ideas for activities we can try in the home.
Throughout the year, we host various special events, including themed open days and summer and winter fetes that people in our local communities are welcome to join us for. We also have monthly church services with Rev. Ann from Danestone Congregational Church, which is open to loved ones as well.

Celebrating life at Fairview House Care Home
Flower arranging
Throughout July and August we donated flowers from our local marks and spencers. We took the opportunity to make some beautiful displays in the home. The dining room in particular looked beautiful. Our residents always jump at the chance to help with the flowers, it gives them joy and a sense of purpose.
We usually have a cup of tea and enjoy some chatting with music in the background to have a lovely experience.
Summer fayre
In August we celebrated with a summer fayre. It was a very lively atmosphere with stalls selling bags, jewellery, and handmade resin items. We sold candy floss and that was a huge hit with kids and adults alike. We had burgers and hotdogs to eat and fizzy juice to wash them down.
Tombola raffle and face paint went down a treat. We also had a magician and a singer to entertain all the residents and their family members.
Concert in the park
At the end of August, we gathered in Duthie Park in Aberdeen with 2 other homes and some of their residents. This ‘Concert in the Park’ was to promote best practice in dementia care.
We had a singer, some wonderful speeches and A LOT of dancing. All this fun and enjoyment was had by all the residents and staff.

Blue Light Breakfast
We were delighted to welcome our local fire fighting heroes to our Blue Light Breakfast Event.
We had the pleasure of welcoming Andy, Matt, Jason, and Andy from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, North Anderson Drive. They enjoyed a delicious sausage and bacon butty and gave an insightful discussion on fire safety in care homes.
We hope to welcome back our local firefighters soon.
Lunch under the trees
It was a beautiful day for al fresco dining and that is exactly what we did! Our residents enjoyed a delicious lunch of classic fish and chips out in the garden, soaking up the lovely sunshine.
With refreshing drinks, great music, and even better company, it was the perfect way to spend a summer's afternoon.
Tall ships visit Aberdeen
Over the past few days, the biggest topic in Aberdeen was the Tall Ships. The Tall Ships arrived in the harbour last week Friday and the buzz around the city was energetic. We took our residents to the ships on Friday and Monday. Unfortunately, with the enormous crowds and lack of parking, we couldn’t always get off the minibus close enough, but our residents got just as excited seeing these majestic ships through the windows.
We all excitedly exchanged thoughts of what it would be like to sail on the open waters for days on end and wondered what incredible adventures these magnificent vessels have been on. This was truly a spectacular sight and experience. Our residents got creative with beautiful drawings and paintings inspired by the majestic tall ships. Congratulations to the Memory Lane team for the winning entry. Well done!

Just keep swimming
Jim had always loved swimming. When he was young, he’d swim every morning at the beach. Even when he started working, he still made time — in the mornings, at lunch, and twice on Tuesdays! On holidays in Australia, he swam in his brother’s pool. As a child, he swam in rivers and ponds with his brothers.
Today, Jim had a great time swimming lengths, diving under the water, and relaxing in the hot tub. He even tried the sauna — but didn’t enjoy that one so much! Great to see Jim doing what he loves most!
Breakfast club
Our Breakfast Club has become a big favourite at Fairview House. We incorporate breakfasts from around the world to keep it interesting with the main goal of supporting and encouraging our residents to be independent. Today our residents made their own pancakes and chose what they would like to have with their pancakes.
One of our residents explained how she used to make her pancakes and gave us great tips on how to make the perfect pancake every time. The dining room was full of smiles as everyone enjoyed the delicious pancakes.
Hazelhead Park outing
Our weekly minibus outings brings so much joy to our residents. Looking forward to drive around Aberdeen, reminiscing about their younger days in the big and beautiful city. On this outing we went to Hazelhead Park. It was a beautiful sunny day!
Our residents had a fantastic time in the park. Walking around, enjoying the fresh air and admiring all the beautiful flowers mother nature has to offer during spring. After a heartfelt, warm walk we sat down and enjoyed a delicious ice-cream to cool off and to make our already wonderful day, perfect.
Celebrating diversity
We celebrated Diversity Day at Aberdeen Town Hall today with Torry Care Home and Persley Nursing Home! It was a day full of colour and flavour with staff dressed up in their countries' traditional attire and bringing favourite dishes for everyone to taste!
The day was full of traditional dances and songs, a talented singer and a fabulous fashion show! A big thank you to Lorraine from CI, Elaine, Care Homes City Lead Nurse, Arlene, NHS dementia specialist nurse, Shona, Commissioning Lead and all those who attended from Aberdeen Health and Social Care Partnership. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to enjoy the day with us!

Delight at Care Inspectorate results!
Today, our home is filled with happiness and pride! We are absolutely delighted to share that, following our recent Care Inspectorate inspection, we have achieved grades of 4 across the board, which means GOOD in all key areas!
This result is a true reflection of the dedication, care, and professionalism of our entire team. Every member of staff has worked incredibly hard, embraced positive changes, and stayed committed to providing high-quality care, even through challenging times.
Margaret the Chef!
When one of our residents, Margaret, told us she wanted to make her favourite milk pudding again, our awesome activities team got a group together for a fun little cooking demo! Margaret showed everyone how it’s done, and the pudding turned out so tasty!
The comments were all amazing — "very tasty," "delicious," and lots of "well done, Margaret!" Big thanks to Margaret for sharing her recipe and treating us all to something sweet!
Easter Fun
We had loads of fun today! The Easter Bunny and Chicken hid all the chocolate eggs all over Fairview and our residents had a blast looking for it. They were all very excited, going around the home seeing who can find the most eggs!
all the eggs were found Bunny and Chicken went around to give every resident and staff member some Easter Joy! Thank you, Bunny and Chicken, you were great sports, and you brought lots of joy to every in our home today! A very Happy Easter from all of us at Fairview. We hope you had a wonderful day and just as much fun!
Grand National
What a joyful Easter Sunday at Waterside Court!! The Easter Bunny was in full swing hiding and delivering chocolate treats, whilst at the same time being naughty as usual. The residents could not contain their joy as everyone got onto the Egg hunting mission.
What made the day even more special was the wonderful turnout from families and friends, who came along to share in the laughter, help with the hunt and create lasting memories together. Joyful days like these are what makes us all feel blessed at Waterside Court.
34 Years Young!
Our home turned 34 in March and we through the biggest party to celebrate our home's special day. The very talented Megan Wight got everyone singing and moving with her great voice and fantastic choice of music.
Good food, great music and the best residents, staff, friends and family – a great combination for an excellent day. Happy birthday to our home, Fairview. Here is to many more lovely years.
