Activities at Fairview House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators create a weekly planner that consists of a variety of activities, which caters to all residents' needs as best as possible. The most popular activities are bingo, which we host twice a week, flower arranging and weekly visits from Vinnie our pet therapy dog. Residents also enjoy minibus trips in the nicer weather and we attend a concert every month. We are also involved in the Council Well-being Team, which keeps us up-to date with upcoming events within the community and provides interesting ideas for activities we can try in the home.

Throughout the year, we host various special events, including themed open days and summer and winter fetes that people in our local communities are welcome to join us for. We also have monthly church services with Rev. Ann from Danestone Congregational Church, which is open to loved ones as well.

Jubilee celebrations

Excitement has been running high at Fairview House in Aberdeen where residents and staff have been busy making Jubilee-themed decorations and baking up a storm of red, white and blue cakes and pastries with the help of head chef Alex in preparation for the Jubilee.

Staff and residents at the home put their heads together and came up with a plan for their celebrations fit for a Queen.  Over the bank holiday weekend the home held a whole home afternoon tea, open to all who wished to attend featuring local singer and entertainer Andy Rhodes and a wonderful Cocktail bar with everyone’s favourite drinks. The whole home came together to celebrate our longest reigning monarch and reminisce about what she means to each and every one of us.

Star of Nimrod

We had a lovely time joining Graham Whitlock for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘The Crystal Palace Chronicles: Star of Nimrod’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fictional character Joe, who went on a rollercoaster adventure travelling back in time to the heyday of Victorian Crystal Palace.

Everyone had lots of fun during the virtual talk, as Graham took them on a clever and hilarious adventure. A great time was had by all.

World Cocktail Day

World Cocktail Day is a global celebration of cocktails, the date marks the publication of the first recorded definition of a cocktail on May 13 in 1806 as a ‘stimulating liquor, composed of spirits of any kind, sugar, water and bitters’.  World Cocktail Day invites everyone to try something new, and perhaps a little exotic, this special occasion is celebrated by cocktail lovers worldwide.

Whether you’re a tequila fan, a whisky lover, a gin aficionado or you just like to mix it up and try something new, World Cocktail Day has something for everyone. It was certainly a day of fun-filled tastings for the staff and residents at Fairview House care home.

Conversations on The Pond with Henry Slator

We had a lovely time joining Henry Slator for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘Conversations at the Pond’.

Henry had an unusual writing journey, which many of our residents found inspiring, he underwent chemotherapy in early 2020, which allowed him to rediscover his light-hearted outlook on life by imagining conversations with creatures in and around his large garden pond and adding buckets of fun.

The entertaining Conversations at the Pond, with its mass of colourful illustrations, took our residents along his journey, they felt inspired, cheered and loved hearing all about Henry’s experiences.

A great time was had by all.

Pizza Making Masterclass

Welcome to a wonderful master class In making your very own pizza. Demonstrated by our amazing chef we were overjoyed to make the most delicious pizza’s with all our favourite toppings. No pineapple though, it seems we aren’t a fan of that!

,

Art Workshop

We had a wonderful art masterclass workshop today from our own activity team member Jade. We learnt to marble paper that could be used for card making, bunting or if you get really good you can even make your own wrapping paper! We decided to keep our pictures and you can now find them on the wall next to our new activity board.

It was very messy but a whole lot of fun and quite therapeutic!
