Activities at Field House Care Home

The Activities Coordinators here at Field House are always keen to learn about residents' interests and hobbies, tailoring meaningful activities to the likes and dislikes of those we support. Our mission is to ignite the past, appeal to current interests and embrace new ones, improving quality of life whilst stimulating the mind and senses. Activities are carried out via small groups or individually, supported by local volunteers. We have access to a range of local community facilities and nearby places of interest, prompting community engagement, and hold special events at the home, where we are entertained by guest vocalists and performers, with 'The Quiz Master' being a fan favourite.

Caroline Davis

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I'm Caroline and I joined Field House in 2021 from another Barchester home. I have worked in care for the last 30 years and a big part of that has been with Barchester.

Here at Field House, I organise a variety of activities and social events within the home and in the community, such as gardening club arts and crafts, weekly exercise sessions along with live singers and musicians every month. We are also keen on regular outings to local landmarks, museums, cafes and shopping centres.

In my job, I'm able to develop excellent relationships with residents and their families providing the support they need. I am very passionate about my job role as it is very important to us as a team that every individual is able to live the life they wish and feel fulfilled in their everyday activities maintaining past hobbies and finding new ones.

Learning New Games and Enjoying Good Company

New resident at Field House; Howard took great pleasure in introducing the Friday games group to a brain teaser game full of strategy and tactics. Betty loved it as she used to play a lot of Bridge. Mary and Peter L had fun getting to grips with the rules, Peter said "it's always good to learn new things and this game has really got my brain going!"

After lunch several residents tried a spot of pebble painting, Betty found it very relaxing before they all gathered together for a few rounds of Dominos before settling down for Tea.

Dreams Come True at the Seaside

We love making dreams come true at Field House and a trip to the seaside was just what the doctor ordered for resident, Molly Rogers. At 103 years young Molly was so excited to see the sea as the convoy of cars from Field House care home headed to the beautiful seaside town of Barmouth in Wales.

Barmouth, with its stunning views of the Snowdonia mountains, sandy beaches, and a historic harbour reminded Molly of growing up in Canada where she lived by the coast and would take family holidays to the beach. Fellow resident day trippers; Peter Lewer and Peter Sagar loved the arcades with all the music and flashing lights whilst Molly enjoyed checking every machine pocket for coins ....just in case!

With fish, chips and mushy peas on the seafront that brought on an impromptu rendition of ‘I do like to be beside the seaside, beside the sea’! The memories of family holidays and trips to the local fun fair came to mind. The smell of candy floss and the taste of ice cream made it a perfect day for a stroll along Barmouth’s harbour and beach to watch the visiting children play and take donkey rides.

This happy band of residents had a fun-packed day and brought plenty of souvenir rock and sugar dummies back for the other residents and staff at Field House.

Paula Wiggan, General Manager at the home, said: “We want everyone we care for to know how important they are to us here at Field House. I can’t thank the Field House team and volunteers enough for making this happen – we’ll definitely be planning more ‘dreams come true’ moments throughout the year.”
