Activities at Field House Care Home

The Activities Coordinators here at Field House are always keen to learn about residents' interests and hobbies, tailoring meaningful activities to the likes and dislikes of those we support. Our mission is to ignite the past, appeal to current interests and embrace new ones, improving quality of life whilst stimulating the mind and senses. Activities are carried out via small groups or individually, supported by local volunteers. We have access to a range of local community facilities and nearby places of interest, prompting community engagement, and hold special events at the home, where we are entertained by guest vocalists and performers, with 'The Quiz Master' being a fan favourite.

Caroline Davis

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I'm Caroline and I joined Field House in 2021 from another Barchester home. I have worked in care for the last 30 years and a big part of that has been with Barchester.

Here at Field House, I organise a variety of activities and social events within the home and in the community, such as gardening club arts and crafts, weekly exercise sessions along with live singers and musicians every month. We are also keen on regular outings to local landmarks, museums, cafes and shopping centres.

In my job, I'm able to develop excellent relationships with residents and their families providing the support they need. I am very passionate about my job role as it is very important to us as a team that every individual is able to live the life they wish and feel fulfilled in their everyday activities maintaining past hobbies and finding new ones.

Family and Friends morning with Santa's grotto

What a fantastic morning we all had at field house. We welcomed lots of family members and friends who all enjoyed homemade mulled wine and mince pies.

Children all arrived to meet Santa who handed out Christmas treats and even the staff got in on the action.

Residents Christmas party!

Field house Christmas party day presented something very special when the oven decided to break down, meaning that the beautiful roast beef had to stay in the fridge. The residents laughed and said “good, we can have fish and chips - our favourite!"

We all enjoyed the fish and chips and the lovely Kerry Young sang for us and we all danced until our feet hurt.

For tea we had a lovely buffet that our chef Dan prepared. Such a fantastic afternoon had by all.

Christmas Wreath Making with Girl Guides

Residents enjoyed an evening with the girl guides making Christmas wreaths before Christmas.

The residents loved asking the guides questions about the sort of thinks they did and all about the badges they had and the ones they were working towards. Betty and Elizabeth enjoyed helping the girls choose things to put in their wreaths.

After, the girls took their wreaths home to hang on their doors.

Christmas Canal Boat Trip

Getting to the end of 2023 and the residents at Field House voted to have our last big trip out to Montgomery canal boat for a Christmas party.

We enjoyed a Christmas quiz that was won by Howard and we listened to Christmas music while relaxing watching the wildlife go by.

Howard stood at the front of the boat looking to see how many fish there were is the canal and the other residents thought it was so lovely that walkers going past would wave to us on the canal. Jean said it was such a lovely last trip before Christmas.

Christmas Fete

We had a fabulous time at Field House! Everyone enjoyed a fun filled festive afternoon. As Christmas tunes rang through the home, and mulled wine along with homemade mince pies warmed our hearts, each craft stall buzzed with shoppers looking for that unique gift. Residents really enjoyed being able to purchase their own presents for family members. Santa appeared with presents for all the children adding a sparkle of Christmas magic to the festive celebration for young and old.

Church Stretton Frost Fair

Church Stretton was full of Christmas magic as we took a group of residents to the frost fair and light switch on. The Mayfair community centre was full of Christmas spirit with craft stalls galore for us to peruse. Our residents enjoyed meeting lots of old friends and new people around Mayfair hall and town. Howard and Peter loved looking at the vintage tractors and we had the pleasure of listening to the Church Stretton Accordion Band and Harmony in the halls voice community choir. Brenda thought the Dutch street organ was fantastic it brought so many memory’s rushing back!

Brenda was delighted to buy a Christmas bauble from the Church Stretton Rotary club which we decorated and placed on the community Christmas tree before taking tea and mince pie at Mayfair centre.

What a perfect start to this year’s festivities.
