Activities at Field House Care Home

The Activities Coordinators here at Field House are always keen to learn about residents' interests and hobbies, tailoring meaningful activities to the likes and dislikes of those we support. Our mission is to ignite the past, appeal to current interests and embrace new ones, improving quality of life whilst stimulating the mind and senses. Activities are carried out via small groups or individually, supported by local volunteers. We have access to a range of local community facilities and nearby places of interest, prompting community engagement, and hold special events at the home, where we are entertained by guest vocalists and performers, with 'The Quiz Master' being a fan favourite.

Caroline Davis

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I'm Caroline and I joined Field House in 2021 from another Barchester home. I have worked in care for the last 30 years and a big part of that has been with Barchester.

Here at Field House, I organise a variety of activities and social events within the home and in the community, such as gardening club arts and crafts, weekly exercise sessions along with live singers and musicians every month. We are also keen on regular outings to local landmarks, museums, cafes and shopping centres.

In my job, I'm able to develop excellent relationships with residents and their families providing the support they need. I am very passionate about my job role as it is very important to us as a team that every individual is able to live the life they wish and feel fulfilled in their everyday activities maintaining past hobbies and finding new ones.

St. Patrick's Day Preparations

Residents at Field House had a fantastic day of arts and crafts as we prepared our home for St. Patrick's Day. We got very messy with pastel chalks, blending colours with our fingers, but the results were well worth it!

A Snowy Day at Field House

At Field House, the staff always go out of their way to make the lives of our residents special. Today wasn’t any different. While residents watched from a warm cosy room, staff built a lovely big snowman for the residents to enjoy. Our mischievous staff decided to bring a snow ball in doors - It wasn’t long before it got thrown, leading to lots of laughter and smiles.

Feed the birds.

A couple of our ladies have been concerned about the birds over the last few days with the weather being so cold, so we talked about what extra things we could do for them and came up with fat balls. As field house residents don’t ever want to do things by half, it was fat hearts not balls we made for them. Residents have all had a wonderful morning feeding the birds.

Cornish Pasty Week

Last week we celebrated Cornish pasty week! Our residents discussed how they were going to do there pasties and what they would like to put in them. The pasties and ended up being more veggie and cheesy than Cornish. With residents all volunteering for a role, everyone worked well together. The conversations about food and places to holiday in Cornwall added to our fantastic morning. One of our residents told us about the best pasty shop near St Ives.

St. David's Day

At Field House we celebrated ST David’s day with lots of activities. Starting with making Welsh Cakes, following the recipe from the Oomph ST David’s day activity book. The residents always enjoy baking and being able to taste the finished product. Residents had lots of conversations about how they made Walsh cakes at home. In our craft group, we made daffodil flowers and after lunch had a big quiz about welsh history. It was a fab day had by all.

National Homemade Bread Week

To celebrate national homemade bread week some of the residents at Field House have been pushing their baking skills and sharing stories. One lady told us that she made 200 bread rolls every year for a gymkhana to feed all of the volunteers. Lots of fun had by everyone and all the bread was enjoyed!
