Activities at Field House Care Home

The Activities Coordinators here at Field House are always keen to learn about residents' interests and hobbies, tailoring meaningful activities to the likes and dislikes of those we support. Our mission is to ignite the past, appeal to current interests and embrace new ones, improving quality of life whilst stimulating the mind and senses. Activities are carried out via small groups or individually, supported by local volunteers. We have access to a range of local community facilities and nearby places of interest, prompting community engagement, and hold special events at the home, where we are entertained by guest vocalists and performers, with 'The Quiz Master' being a fan favourite.

Caroline Davis

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I'm Caroline and I joined Field House in 2021 from another Barchester home. I have worked in care for the last 30 years and a big part of that has been with Barchester.

Here at Field House, I organise a variety of activities and social events within the home and in the community, such as gardening club arts and crafts, weekly exercise sessions along with live singers and musicians every month. We are also keen on regular outings to local landmarks, museums, cafes and shopping centres.

In my job, I'm able to develop excellent relationships with residents and their families providing the support they need. I am very passionate about my job role as it is very important to us as a team that every individual is able to live the life they wish and feel fulfilled in their everyday activities maintaining past hobbies and finding new ones.

Life at Field House Care Home

Reunited!

We are reuniting residents and families who have not seen each other since March. It was very (happily) emotional!

Keeping in Touch

We recognise the importance of keeping in touch with families during the current restrictions. We are using technology such as Skype and video calling, but some of our residents prefer pen and paper. Here, one of our residents is writing a card to a relative to wish them happy birthday and to let them know he is having a fun time in the home!

Prayer Meeting

We take pride in encouraging our residents to utilise the skills they have developed through our lives. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we have been unable to have the minister at the home to deliver the monthly service.

Here, one of our residents, John, who is a lay preacher, is delivering a service to a small group of residents in the conservatory of the home. John said that being able to help at this time of uncertainty gave him “great pleasure”.

Walking Club

Our residents enjoy our daily walking club around the grounds of the home in the sunshine, which helps to stay active and maintain mobility throughout lockdown.

Bunting Appeal

We recently made an appeal for some bunting or material to help us create some decorations to brighten up areas of the home and grounds. Our appeal has reached far and wide and has been discussed on local radio, resulting in a beautiful hand-knitted length of bunting received through the post from a lady called Anette, who is not local, but thanked all of our staff in each department (the lady is not known to us and not from the local area!).

It’s uplifting for the residents to know that people in the community are thinking of them, and the same for our amazing team of dedicated staff. The photograph is one of our residents, John, and one of our amazing carers, Tesni.

Postcards of Kindness

Residents received some cards, pictures and postcards from kind members of our local community to help keep everyone's spirits up during this current crisis.
