Activities at Hagley Place Care Home
Activities plays a big part in the care we deliver to residents; activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join in with activities and events as often as they can.
Mandy Hayward
I have a long background in the care industry and love to incorporate the outdoors in my activities. This role is very special as it allows me the time to get to know our residents and their families in a deeply personal way.

Life at Hagley Place Care Home
New Year's
New Year’s Eve saw the resurgence of an old tradition: the handing out of gold coins to all to ensure that the next year will be full of luck, love and prosperity! Then, on New Year’s Day, we had a wonderful ‘first footing’ dance, a tradition from the north that many residents remember from their youth.
Christmas Day
Hagley was buzzing with activity on Christmas Day, with residents being taken out by their families and loved ones joining us for Christmas dinner, which was well washed down with plenty of Christmas tipples.
Christmas Fayre
This year, Hagley Place hosted something a little different: a late night shopping extravaganza! Local craftspeople were invited to come and put up a stall at our Christmas Fayre. There was a grand raffle and tombolas galore and even Santa in his grotto for the young and old to enjoy alike. There were a lot of visitors and we raised over £700, which will go towards our Magic Table fund. Everyone had a truly magical time!
Careers at Ludlow
Hagley Place was invited to Ludlow School to represent Barchester at their Careers Fair. Years 8, 9, 10 and 11 came and spoke to us about the opportunities they would have with Barchester.
Staff Sing for Christmas
Staff at Hagley formed a choir this year to sing for the residents. The lovely Marina Clent graciously offered to play the electric organ as accompaniment and the residents enjoyed it so much that even after the scheduled carols had been sung, we ended up standing around the organ, singing from the sheet music to old favourites.
Christmas Cake
Hagley Place is participating in the Barchester Christmas Cake Competition this year. Residents were very excited to plan out the cake – a wreath by majority vote – and then decorate it with very small holly leaves filled in with holly berries! It took a long time to make and was a very messy job, but we got there in the end!
