Activities at Hall Park Care Home

Residents Josie Grange and our Residents’ Ambassador Susan Tidy recently visited Lenton Leisure Centre to present a cheque for £2,500, generously donated by Barchester Healthcare, to the West Area Project, a fantastic service supporting adults with learning disabilities and/or autism.

The funding will help pay for swimming lessons, enabling even more people from the local community to enjoy the much-loved sessions. The swimming group is a huge success, bringing fun, friendship and exercise to everyone involved.

The donation will also help provide fresh fruit and vegetables for Active2, a Tuesday evening activity group that encourages people with learning disabilities and/or autism to stay active, healthy and socially connected.

During their visit, Josie and Susan met some of the people who benefited from the service and watched Rich David take on his incredible fundraising challenge. To mark Learning Disability Week, Rich completed a series of activities including walking, rowing, cycling, swimming and running to raise awareness of the fact that people with a learning disability and/or autism die, on average, 19.5 years younger than the general population.  

Josie and Susan were delighted to see first-hand the positive impact the project has on so many lives and were proud to present the cheque in support of its valuable work. 

We have had the pleasure of welcoming back students from Bulwell Academy, and what a fantastic afternoon it was!

Residents and students spent time sharing their favourite songs, and as you can imagine, everyone got to hear music they’d never listened to before. While the students introduced some new tunes, a few of our residents were quick to say they definitely don’t want to hear some of that music again! 

There was plenty of laughter, great conversation, and even a chance for some of the students to learn how to play dominoes from our resident experts.

A wonderful intergenerational afternoon filled with fun, friendship, and memories. Thank you to the students and staff from Bulwell Academy for visiting us – we loved having you!        

Our residents enjoyed sampling a variety of international treats, including German and Polish sausages, Jamaican dumplings, and delicious Sri Lankan Kokis kindly homemade by our lovely carers, Sajith and Ranjalee, which went down a treat! 

Resident Dave especially enjoyed the food so much that he came back for 3 plates! For something sweet, we tucked into French pain au chocolat, perfectly paired with wild berry kombucha, which originated in China. We also tried Spanish meats and Belgian pâté… although it’s fair to say those weren’t quite as popular!  

Alongside the celebrations, some of our residents enjoyed a relaxing flower wreath-making session for their doors, and I’m sure you’ll agree they did a fantastic job. A lovely day full of laughter, culture, conversation, and creativity for everyone involved.

Our residents had a wonderful time celebrating Vincent van Gogh’s birthday in style! Each person created their own beautiful Van Gogh-inspired masterpiece while enjoying a relaxing glass of wine.

There were lots of smiles, creativity flowing, and great conversations as everyone shared their favourite Van Gogh paintings—some classic choices and a few surprises too! A perfect mix of art, laughter, and community.   

Some of our residents enjoyed a lovely trip in the minibus to the dementia café at Basford Miners Welfare.
We had a fantastic time dancing to brilliant live music, trying our luck at bingo and the raffle, and tucking into a wonderful spread of food — all completely free.

Our residents absolutely loved their visit and couldn’t wait to share their stories with everyone once we returned home.

Our residents enjoyed sampling a selection of refreshing iced teas, and we had some clear favourites! 
The most popular flavour was Hibiscus, Rose & Sweet Berries – a delicious hit with everyone!

Meanwhile, the Lemon, Turmeric & Ginger tea certainly got people talking… and judging by some of the funny faces, it wasn’t quite everyone’s cup of tea!

A wonderful afternoon filled with laughter, conversations, and plenty of taste-testing.     

Some of our lovely residents enjoyed a wonderful trip to Matlock, making the most of the beautiful weather and creating more special memories together.

Our adventure included a visit to the arcades, followed by a relaxing sit down watching all the amazing bikers ride by while we tucked into some delicious fish and chips. Of course, no trip to Matlock would be complete without treating ourselves to a tasty Mr Whippy ice cream!

Afterwards, we enjoyed a lovely cuppa while sitting beside the beautiful River Derwent, taking in the peaceful surroundings and soaking up the sunshine. 

We also enjoyed watching the huge car and admired the cable cars gliding across the valley. It really was the perfect summer’s day. Now for the funniest part of the day… Kerry and Gwen kept hearing a strange cranking noise coming from the wheelchair. After trying to work out what it could possibly be, they discovered it had been dragging a coat hanger behind it the whole time! Safe to say it gave us all a good laugh!      

A huge “Thank You” goes to our amazing carer Hannah, who kindly came in on her day off to drive everyone to Matlock. Your kindness and dedication mean so much to our residents, and we really appreciate you. 

Days like these are what making memories is all about!   

We were delighted to welcome back the Bulwell Community Choir to the home. They filled the home with joy and laughter, performing favourites such as Bob Marley’s Don’t Worry About a Thing and classic ABBA hits, which had our residents singing their hearts out.

Of course, our very own dancing queens, residents Mary and Janice, stole the show once again with their amazing moves and wonderful energy!!

A huge thank you to the choir for another fantastic evening of music and happiness.      

We’ve had a truly wonderful time celebrating Easter here at Hall Park Care Home!

Our residents enjoyed a lovely creative session, making beautiful handmade cards and decorating crosses with lots of colour and care. It was fantastic to see everyone’s creativity shine. The fun continued with an Easter quiz, filled with laughter and friendly competition – and of course, plenty of chocolate eggs were handed out to our participants!     

To make the day even more special, each resident received a little Easter gift of chocolates, which brought lots of smiles all around.   

It was a day full of joy, laughter, and togetherness – just what Easter is all about.   

Everyone at Hall Park would like to wish everyone at St Mary’s Church in Bulwell a very Merry Christmas and to thank you all for your continued support. 

We are so grateful that you come into the home each month to lead your lovely church services. You truly fill our residents with happiness and help them feel connected with their faith, and it means so much to them and to us all.   

By popular demand, the Barchester Boys wanted a trip to the pub, and who were we to argue?

A bit of fun, laughter and a beer or two went a long way for this motley crew who just loved to be back in the pub and enjoying a change of scenery.

Don't worry, they were back in time for tea, and they're already planning our next trip!!!

Our residents on Memory Lane got creative making bee hotels in honour of World Bee Day.

It was a wonderful afternoon filled with creativity, conversation, and learning about the important role bees play in our environment. The finished bee hotels will help provide safe spaces for pollinators to rest and nest, supporting local wildlife while bringing plenty of colour and character to our garden.      

Our resident ambassador, Marjorie, kindly led a fantastic sign language session in honour of Deaf Awareness Week. Everyone had so much fun learning the basics of sign language, including the alphabet — which, of course, led to us all trying to spell our names!  

We were all so impressed with how brilliantly Marjorie did, leading the session and sharing her knowledge with us.  

Thank you to everyone who joined in and made both days so special!    

Our residents and staff had so much fun taking part — there was plenty of laughter, friendly competition, and wonderful community spirit all around.

A special shout out to our maintenance manager, who kicked things off with a very serious warning about not putting holes in the walls… which of course made everyone laugh! And huge congratulations to resident, Phil, who was absolutely thrilled to take the win! His smile said it all!

Thank you to Waleys Dart Days for bringing such a brilliant activity to Hall Park — we can’t wait to do it again!   

We had a lovely Pyjama Day here at Hall Park! Our staff swapped their uniforms for cosy pyjamas and dressing gowns, staying comfortable, warm, and ready for the day.

Our residents absolutely loved seeing everyone dressed up, and it brought lots of smiles, laughter, and great conversation throughout the day. It was a fun, relaxed atmosphere and a reminder that sometimes it’s the simple things that make the biggest difference.
