Activities at Hempton Field Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Nina Mullerworth

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Nina and I have had the privilege of working at Hempton Field in my role as Activities Coordinator for over 15 years and I am looking forward to many more! I have enjoyed continually developing in the role with a variety of training courses, including a Level 2 NAPA and Aromatherapy Massage.

I love interacting with the residents and organising a varied programme of activities with a person-centred approach based on Barchester's Life Enrichment Programme of enhancing the wellbeing of mind, body and soul.  This includes ensuring residents can continue to enjoy hobbies, life experiences and keep active through exercise and music.  We are involved with local clubs and welcome in members of the community as well as a variety of outings in the minibus - these are always very popular!

Back to School!

When all the children went back to school, our residents and staff here at Hempton Field did too!

In the weeks leading up to our ‘Back to School’ day, we dug out old uniforms and accessories to really look the part. A few days before, Activities Coordinator Nina set the residents some homework in preparation for their reminiscent History lesson on the day! Their task was to think back to the time when they were in school and answer questions such as; ‘What was your favourite subject?’ and ‘What sort of uniform did you have to wear?’. The residents spoke with friends and family to recall their time at school as well as draw on positive and fulfilling memories.

When the day arrived, we put on our school uniforms and designated Elizabeth as our School Captain and Activities Coordinator Nina as our Headmistress! In the morning we had a ‘School Assembly’ gathered in our lounge, which we started with popular school Hymns. This was followed by our personal history lesson. This encouraged residents to reminisce on their past and their school days, and share with each other the differences in their school lives!

At lunchtime, a typical school dinner was served! Staff had decorated the dining room to resemble a dinner hall, with each resident having a lunchbox and glass bottle. Faggots were on the menu for those who were keen to have them, and the favoured dessert was Sponge & Custard!

After lunch the school bell rang and it was time for the residents to go to Home Economics class. Several of our residents used to teach Home Economics classes, so found this extremely nostalgic! The class decided they wanted to bake traditional bread pudding, and this was then shared out and enjoyed by everyone with a cup of tea to reflect on the day.

Carer retires after 33 years at Hempton Field

This month we said goodbye to our longest-serving member of the Care Team, Pauline, as she leaves to enjoy her well-deserved retirement! Pauline worked at Hempton Field for over 33years and worked in various roles over the years, working days and nights.

We gave Pauline a little send-off and spoke of all our memories and experiences at Hempton Field over the years. The wonderful team in the kitchen also baked Pauline one of her favourite cakes to enjoy. Pauline will be greatly missed by both residents and staff as a valued and well-loved member of the team.

Launton Hand Bell Ringers Reunion

On Saturday 22nd July we had the pleasure of being visited by the Launton Hand Bell Ringers!

This was a very special day as one of our residents, Rosemary, has been a member for many years! Rosemary was overjoyed to be able to play with her group again and loved seeing all her friends she's known for many years!

Visit to Home of Rest for Horses

Last week two of our residents had such an enjoyable day out when we visited The Horse Trust, Home of Rest for Horses in Buckinghamshire.

The Home of Rest for Horses has been providing retirement and respite to working horses and ponies for over 130 years.

It was a lovely day, getting to interact with the horses and learn all about how they are cared for when they retire there.

Courtyard Transformation Project

This week we started our little courtyard transformation project!

Our gardening club spent a sunny afternoon gardening in the courtyard ready to fill our pots and flower beds with new plants.

After preparing our courtyard, it was then time to head to the garden centre to choose some new plants and flowers!

We made a trip over to Hartwell Nurseries and enjoyed looking around at all the plants and flowers they had to offer.

We chose some flowers we thought would look beautiful in our courtyard, and we are looking forward to our next Gardening club afternoon to begin planting!

Today we celebrated National Fish & Chip day!

We enjoyed a lovely lunch in our dining room, which we turned into a Fish & Chip Diner for the day!

We tried sweet potato fries with a bite-sized piece of beer battered cod, followed by a delicious dish we'd never had before - Fish & Chip pie!
