Activities at Highview House Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Aiden Wylie
Hello, my name is Aiden Wylie, and I am Head Activities Coordinator here at Highview House. My job is to ensure a mentally and physically challenging and varied calendar of activities. I want to involve all our residents in a warm and welcoming environment.
My career has been in education and I have lived in countries as diverse as Japan and Iraq, but in 2022 I came to Highview with the ambition of offering a range of activities, trips and entertainment which lead to lasting memories and experiences.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Highview House Care Home

Scottish Ballet’s Armchair Performance for Highview Residents
Exercise is a vital part of life – irrespective of age.
Residents at Highview were delighted to take part in an afternoon of armchair ballet, under the leadership of Scottish Ballet. Accompanied by live music, residents of all mobility levels were able to try their hand at dance moves, as well as getting an opportunity to look at costumes from the big stage performance of The Nutcracker.
Scottish Ballet are currently on tour across the country, and residents at Highview were delighted they were able to stop off for a performance live in their living room!

Highview's very own Great British Bake off
Inspired by television’s Great British Bake-Off, Highview residents decided to start their very own baking club. And who better to lead it than the granddaughter of one of our residents, who happens to be a professional baker?
Each week, residents are encouraged to choose a bake and Niamh leads them step by step through the whole process – resulting in a delicious treat for the entire home. Some of the treats our residents have baked include cupcakes, custard cream biscuits and scones.
Our baking club is a great example of resident-lead activities, with residents not just participating in activities, but taking an active role in deciding which activities are held.

Family Moments with Highview House
Person-centred care is fundamental to everything the activities team does at Highview House. We want every resident to enjoy the things that make them smile, laugh and live. Within our daily activities, we can make time to include family members, allowing families to spend quality time together while at the same time meeting old and new faces.
We encourage family members to attend activities as often as they can, and spending that special time together means so much for each and every resident.

Christmas Party at Highview House
Our annual Christmas parties are bigger and more joyous each and every year.
Featuring special guest appearances, live music, and fancy dress, our residents join with staff, family and friends from across the home to celebrate.
This year, we had live guitar and accordion music, a visit from Santa and as much food as you could possibly imagine.
Plans are already in place for next year’s festivities!

Carol Service with Kiltarlity Choir
As part of the Countdown to Christmas activities calendar, Highview residents were thrilled to play host to choirmaster Graham Bell and the Kiltarlity Community Choir. The choir joined residents, staff, family and friends for a morning’s carol service, featuring traditional hymns as well as more recent Christmas favourites.
For residents, it was a chance to see old friends as the Kiltarlity musicians are regular visitors to the home, and the choir featured Cath Freeman, the wife of former resident Eddie Freeman. And for our visitors, it was an opportunity to engage the residents in a seasonal group singalong.

Residents enjoy panto performance
One of the highlights of the activities year is the annual Christmas pantomime. This year, our good friends at Theatre Presto joined us for a standing-room-only performance or Aladdin.
Residents, staff, family and friends from across the home joined together for a whirlwind afternoon of madcap laughs, interaction and singalongs. After an hour and a half’s hilarity, everyone was left with huge grins and sore ribs, but that didn’t stop residents from posing with the cast for special souvenir photos.
Everyone at Highview is already looking forward to next year’s performance!
