Activities at Highview House Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Aiden Wylie

Lead Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Aiden Wylie, and I am Head Activities Coordinator here at Highview House.  My job is to ensure a mentally and physically challenging and varied calendar of activities.  I want to involve all our residents in a warm and welcoming environment.

My career has been in education and I have lived in countries as diverse as Japan and Iraq, but in 2022 I came to Highview with the ambition of offering a range of activities, trips and entertainment which lead to lasting memories and experiences.

Life at Highview House Care Home

Willie Doig’s Country Show

Highview residents are big music fans, and one of the most popular is Willie Doig (and his dog, Poppy).  Willie’s blend of country and Scottish standards is a sing-a-long hit with all who attend. There’s nothing better than a good sing-a-long, and our residents particularly enjoy the nostalgia that comes from old familiar favourites.

Willie has a knack for hitting exactly the right note.  So much so, that Willie is now a familiar face at the home and residents, and visitors can look forward to seeing him perform at Highview throughout the year.

Eden Project

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time exploring the Eden Project virtually - an educational charity and visitor attraction based in Cornwall, featuring sprawling outdoor gardens and breathtaking biomes that house the largest indoor rainforest in the world.

During the session, residents who joined were reconnected with nature through their senses, memories and stories.  A big thank you to the community team at the Eden Project for the wonderful event.

Musical Comedy With ‘A Fyne Pear’

Residents at Highview House were kept laughing and singing when musical comedy duo A Fyne Pear dropped by.   With their unique blend of humour and multi-instrumental song-and dance, everyone left with a huge smile.  As resident Bill said, it was “an absolutely tremendous afternoon”.

A Fyne Pear’s performance was the latest in a long-running series of shows organised by Highview House in conjunction with Music In Care and Hospitals, who have been entertaining Highview residents over the last five years.

Tour of the deep

Residents across our services enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of The Deep, an award-winning aquarium in Hull.

Our residents dived into the underwater world of some fascinating creatures such as sharks, turtles and stingrays.

It was a truly immersive and educational experience that brought the wonders of the ocean right to our screens.

Highview Gardening Club

Over the warmer months, our residents turn their hand to outdoor gardening.  Our residents assist in a garden-to-table project, growing fruit and vegetables in specially designed raised beds.  The gardening club will work in conjunction with our kitchen team to create menus and dishes which highlight home-grown products.  Our gardening club is just one example of tactile, hands-on activities which encourage residents to become involved in the running of the home.

Hitting the Dancefloor at Sounds Familiar

Highview residents are regular visitors to the local Sounds Familiar singing group, which also involves a fair amount of dancing as well.   At the most recent performance, David showed that you are never too old to dance by taking his chair onto the dancefloor to perform a couple of numbers with the group.   He was joined by music lover Fay, who enjoyed the new surroundings and meeting new people.  She was only too happy to play along on percussion as well!  Sounds Familiar is held twice a month, and Highview residents are always warmly welcomed to their usual seats – front row and centre!
