Activities at Hollyfields Care Home

Our Activities programme is formulated using resident requests and feedback from resident meetings. Residents are involved in planning the programme with things they they would like to do throughout the year. There is a mixture of activities that take place including both group and 1-1 engagement. Residents at Hollyfields particularly enjoy movement to music activities enabling them to increase their level of physical abilities and have fun at the same time, whilst others enjoy musical singalongs and food based activities throughout the week.

We have a mini bus that enables us to reconnect our residents with their community in ways that suite themselves as individuals. This can be achieved by visiting local farms, Georgian towns, local attractions and even the local public house for lunch with friends. Hollyfields have a great relationship with their local community and have visits from local organisations such as The Wyre Community Land Trust and are currently undertaking a 12 week funded project from Arts Etc. Residents at Hollyfields enjoy Pet Therapy visits from their pet rabbit 'Thumper' and like to help clean and feed him daily. Relatives can be encouraged to join us for activities and again are very supportive with delivering theme days and fundraising events within the home.

Celebrating 200 years of Cadbury

Here at Hollyfields & Ivy house we Celebrated 200 years of Cadbury's, Cadburys donated all Barchester homes a special 200th Anniversary chocolate box to share with our residents. we indulged in chocolates both old and new. Residents shared their chocolate memories and favourites. What's yours?

The live virtual event brought back nostalgia with old adverts from years past. It was lovely to hear stories from our residents and to hear how some used to have worked for Cadburys.

VE Day

Here at Hollyfields our residents really thrive on live entertainment. Music really helps our residents recall memories of days gone by. VE day holds many memories for them and celebrating it is close to their heart. To make the day special we had the D Day Dollies perform for us. As they sang songs, dressed in wartime feel attire, you could really feel the atmosphere in the room rise and they residents and staff enjoy singing and dancing along. It is so wonderful to listen to their stories and some even cried happy tears.

Did anyone say cake???

Pudding Club today was another huge success, our head chef and her team did amazing proving the puddings that some of our residents had requested.

Once a month we ask our residents to share their favourite puddings and even recipes so that we can recreate them for a lovely afternoon together.

During pudding club we also live streamed a virtual event to have a sing along with all of the Barchester homes. This was also live streamed directly to some of our residents that wanted to join in from the comfort of their rooms.

We also did a bit of planting today (in between the showers!), hoping to grow some fresh herbs for Sarah to use in the kitchen!

Of all the entertainment we offer, music always hits different and lights up the soul!

Sunshine in the Garden

We have been enjoying the sunshine today! After a frosty morning it really did warm up a treat for us… vitamin D from the gorgeous warm sun does us all the world of good! Whenever the suns out we try and get our residents out in the gardens as much as possible.

We also have to give out a huge congratulations to Donna, one of our long standing team leaders who celebrates 20 years at Hollyfields. Donna is a wonderful carer and not only ensures our residents are well cared for but the staff too.

Congratulations Donna.

St. Patrick's Day

Here at Hollyfields and Ivy house we celebrated St. Patricks Day by listening to some Irish songs whilst having a laugh with some selfie sticks.

Some of our residents got up and had a dance some sat and tapped their feet to the music.

We had a talk about what they would had done for St. Patricks day when they was young, Mavis said she would have celebrated with a Guinness as it would have been her wedding Anniversary, she didn’t fancy a pint so she chose the Steak and Guinness pie instead.

We all had a lovely day full of fun and laughter.
