Activities at Hollyfields Care Home

Our Activities programme is formulated using resident requests and feedback from resident meetings. Residents are involved in planning the programme with things they they would like to do throughout the year. There is a mixture of activities that take place including both group and 1-1 engagement. Residents at Hollyfields particularly enjoy movement to music activities enabling them to increase their level of physical abilities and have fun at the same time, whilst others enjoy musical singalongs and food based activities throughout the week.

We have a mini bus that enables us to reconnect our residents with their community in ways that suite themselves as individuals. This can be achieved by visiting local farms, Georgian towns, local attractions and even the local public house for lunch with friends. Hollyfields have a great relationship with their local community and have visits from local organisations such as The Wyre Community Land Trust and are currently undertaking a 12 week funded project from Arts Etc. Residents at Hollyfields enjoy Pet Therapy visits from their pet rabbit 'Thumper' and like to help clean and feed him daily. Relatives can be encouraged to join us for activities and again are very supportive with delivering theme days and fundraising events within the home.

Life at Hollyfields Care Home

Sporting Moments

Reminiscent sessions are very popular at Hollyfields, especially when they are personalised. Donna Reeves, Senior Carer at Hollyfields took ten minutes from her busy day to have a conversation with one of our residents, a former football legend from 1968.

Mike used to play for Aston Villa FC and loves his sport, so Sporting Moments reminiscing book from Active Minds was the perfect book for their session today.

Both of them enjoyed looking at quotes and pictures from the book and discussing the varied sports they came across.

Festive Ukulele Concert

Residents at Hollyfields were treated to delight of ukulele fun and frolics recently by the fantastic Ukes On The Edge. Residents sang along to festive hits as well as songs from the 60s and 70s.

Festive Silent Disco

Residents, staff and visitors at Hollyfields were delighted with their Festive Silent Disco this Christmas. Residents dressed up, wore headsets and danced along with glow sticks to some of their most favourite Christmas music hits. This was a fantastic evening that took us right into the night with everyone smiling and laughing, enjoying themselves by remembering that their memories matter.

Back to School

Back to school for the residents at Hollyfields, as year 6 pupils came to visit the home this week with a special wartime theme. Residents were treated to classic 1940s songs from the children as well as special wartime poetry recitals.

Strictly Ballroom Surprise

June is a lady who for most of her life has enjoyed Ballroom Dancing, so much in fact that her and her husband participated in many Ballroom & Latin Dance competitions.

June loved Ballroom Dancing so much that she became a dance teacher and taught many youngsters at her dance school. As June got older her love for Ballroom Dancing remained and until only a few years ago June continued to teach.

June loves dancing, so when the nights start drawing in and the colder weather arrives she knows that Strictly Come Dancing can’t be far away from or television screens and likes to sit and watch the celebrities put through their paces almost becoming the fifth judge.

June has always thought of Anton Du Beck as her favourite professional on the show and even though he couldn’t make a visit to Hollyfields due to his very busy filming schedule he did manage to put a smile on Junes face when I presented her with a signed photograph of him earlier today.

With the lead up to Christmas we also have a Strictly Ballroom Surprise for June and many other of our residents as we host a special afternoon Tea Dance.
