Activities at Hunters Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Ben Sandall
Hello I am Ben and I am the Activities Coordinator at Hunters. I started working at Hunters as part of the hospitality team, but when a vacancy came up on the activities team I jumped at the opportunity. I have seen how important a varied activities programme is and the team ensure we offer something for everyone including regular past times.

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Hunters Care Home
Step Aside, Wimbledon
There's a new major tennis event, and it's hosted right here at Hunters Care Home.
This week, we enjoyed a Wimbledon theme, with residents taking part in our own mini tennis tournament, which was followed by Pimm's and lemonade with strawberries and cream whilst everyone watched the ladies' semi-finals.
Summer Fete and Classic Car Show
On Saturday 25th June, Hunters held their annual Classic Car Show and Summer Fete. Attractions included the Fairford Classic Car Club, live music from folk group, Banshee, a birds of prey display from Walks with Hawks, a barbecue and various stalls. Event organiser and the homes Activities Coordinator, Steve Chamberlain, said that, despite torrential rain, local charities, businesses, residents, their relatives and staff came together to make the event a success. Steve said that, like other Barchester homes, good community links are important and, wherever possible, the home likes to give to worthy causes in the local community. This year, the charity was the Cirencester Hospital League of Friends, who were presented with a cheque for just over five hundred pounds. Sheila Rees, chairwoman of the charity, said that they will use the money to improve facilities in the hospital's family room.
Mike Parsons Visits Hunters
At Hunters, Mike Parsons visited for afternoon tea during Foundation Week. We ran a 'guess the number of sweets in the jar competition' to help raise money for the Barchester Foundation. Sam Whyte, our Head Chef, guessed closest with 280 (with 283 being the correct amount). Pictured with Mike is our Deputy Manager, Ruth Holness, and two residents, Hilda Sinclair and Una Jervis - both of whom are always very supportive of any fundraising activities we undertake and who both play a big part in the social life here at Hunters.
Hunters' Garden Party
Residents at Hunters enjoyed a right royal afternoon with a garden party in honour of the Queen's official birthday. There was music from Bill Eteson, Pimm's and lemonade served with cupcakes that were patriotically decorated with red, white and blue icing.
Arts & Crafts at Hunters
During arts and crafts sessions, residents have been busy making decorations and bunting for our upcoming garden party, which will be on the 9th June and, in honour of the Queen's official birthday, there will be live music, patriotically decorated cupcakes and a glass or two of Pimm's. Relatives and friends are welcome, so please come and join us for a fun afternoon, starting at 2.30pm.
International Nurses' Day at Hunters
Hunters recently celebrated International Nurses' Day. The photo shows Deputy Manager, Ruth Holness, with the nurses on duty, raising their travel mug gifts to celebrate their hard work and commitment.
