Activities at Hyacinth House Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Don't Dine Alone - Burn's Celebration Special!

This 25th, we were honoured to welcome back The High Sheriff of Dorset Colin Weston MBE JP and his wife Ruth, as our special guests to join us on our Don't Dine Alone special.

Residents and members of the community came together to feast on a delicious lunch of Scottish favourites including Haggis, Clootie Pudding, Canrachan and of course a dram of whisky (or two) plus more, in celebration of Robert Burns.

Following welcome drinks in the cafe lounge, Richard Rowland piped the guests to our dining room decorated with tartan and thistle centrepieces.

Gerald, a regular visitor to our home, took on the task of reading aloud the 'Selkirk Grace' and shared some insights into Robert Burns and Haggis before he began 'Addressing the Haggis'. In tradition, the piper led Head Chef Howard and the silver platter adorned with haggis to Gerald for cutting and raised a glass to 'Toast the Haggis!'

Before we ended with a good sing-a-long of Auld Lang Syne, we were ecstatic as the High Sheriff presented us with a certificate in recognition of Hyacinth House & Barchester Healthcare's vast community engagements and initiatives, we were very proud to receive this and it's now in pride of place!

A heartfelt thank you to all who attended and took part in making it a special day filled with warmth, community and celebration! Special thanks to Richard Rowland and Gerald for the big part you both played!

Thrilled to welcome Richard, a special visitor to Hyacinth House.

After discovering his parent's house stood here in the 60's we were keen to know more and see any photos of his family home. Today he paid us a visit and we were delighted to be shown his photo album and hear his stories and memories of living here. As you can see there is still a resemblance from the old to the new and the aerial shot unveils a unique perspective of our beloved space.

Showing Richard around Hyacinth House he still felt that familiarity, as he stood in the lounge looking out the window he commented "although it is different, it still feels like home".
