Activities at Iddenshall Hall Care Home

Activities here at Iddenshall Hall are an integral part of every day life for each of our residents. We strive to include as many of our residents as possible with the activities schedule. Our Schedule is released monthly and includes activities such as poetry afternoons, indoor games, Bingo, flower arranging, pamper days, quizzes, exercises, various musicians and entertainers, Pat Dog Visits, Music Therapy, discussion groups and trips out in our minibus to local places of interest and further afield to see the Blackpool Lights or to Knowsley Safari Park.

We are constantly asking the people who live in our home which events they would like to see taking place and we endeavor to fulfill these requests. Our aim is to provide a varied and packed schedule which allows for a vast array of skill bases and capabilities. We are in constant contact with local groups and businesses, the local Beaver Scout group are always happy to pay a visit to our home, helping with the garden or coming at Christmas to sing carols for us. We also have a small group of volunteers to help us, including pupils from our local 6th form College who visit once a week.

All the above helps ensure the lives of our Residents are fun and fulfilled.

Life at Iddenshall Hall Care Home

Valentine's inspired cookery demo

We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Valentine’s-inspired virtual cookery demonstration.  Chef Alex created some delicious Valentine’s Day-inspired vegetarian desserts, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.

First, our residents sampled a wonderful sticky toffee pudding, which was absolutely heavenly. Then they tried hazelnut truffles which were a huge hit and finally they were treated to a chocolate orange cake which everyone adored.

Chinese celebrations

In Iddenshall we travelled for a moment to the Chinese culture and its traditions, seeing the past celebration, reading the horoscope, knowing its customs and predictions of this day in China, which was one of the things that caught their attention. They also tasted fortune cookies and the wish it contains for each one.

Previously some residents painted and made decorations to set our lounge with the Chinese New year.

International Chocolate Day

We had a fantastic time celebrating International Chocolate Cake Day, surely one of the best days of the year.

Our residents tasted a selection of different chocolate treats from chocolate cupcakes to slices of gooey chocolate fudge cake whilst getting involved in fun-filled cake baking and decorating activities. Our Home was filled with the delicious aroma of chocolate!

It was a fabulous day, enjoyed by all and more importantly we had a good excuse to eat chocolate all day long.

Burns celebrations

Here at Iddenshall we prepared a traditional Burns Night feast to the tune of bagpipes.

To honour the famous Scottish poet, we hosted a poetry and music session to learn more about the Scottish Country Dancing and the Ceilidh and to mark the Scottish institution, including giving the time-honoured address to the ‘Great chieftain O’ the pudding’ race’ – the haggis.

Our tables were specially decorated with flowers and Scottish flags for the occasion as our residents enjoyed delicious Scot Broth, Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, Cranachan and Scottish Shortbread, prepared by our talented chef.

Saturday night fever

We had a great celebration that began in the morning with the preparation of 2 jars of mocktails with 2 different flavours. Then the party continued in the afternoon we watched the legendary Saturday Night Fever movie and we had enough time to sing, dance and enjoy a festive atmosphere.

Exercising the mind and body

Keeping active, having social interactions and being mentally stimulated is very important to Residents at Iddenshall Hall.   With a little friendly competitiveness, everyone wanted to beat each other, Residents got ready to win their carpet bowls!  There was a lot of laughter as they played their game.
