Activities at Kenwyn Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

It's a Cheese and Wine Kinda Day!

Did someone say room service?

We had a wonderful afternoon on Tuesday here at Kenwyn, our Activities Team put together a lovely Cheese and Wine event.

We started on a journey around the home to deliver these treats to our residents.

Our residents love a nothing more than a cosy Winters afternoon treat, and never say no to Cheese and Wine.

Non alcoholic options were also available.

Puzzling Teamwork

Teamwork here at Kenwyn is always present not only within our staff but with our residents too! We thought we would share with you some photos taken from one of our residents favourite activities .

Working on a puzzle reinforces connections between brain cells, improves mental speed and is an effective way to improve short-term memory. Our residents are always highly invested in puzzle afternoons and are always willing to take on the challenge.

We are so proud!

We are so proud!

Here at Kenwyn, we are are over the moon because our much-loved Managing Director, Natasha Lazovic, has reached the final of the Social Care Leadership Awards 2022. She has been shortlisted in the prestigious Executive Care Home Leader category.

Organised by Care Talk magazine, the Social Care Leadership Awards are designed to showcase excellence in senior leadership in the social care sector. The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square on Wednesday 19th October 2022.

Originally from Serbia, Natasha trained as a nurse and came to the UK in 1994, achieving her UK registration in 1996. She has always had a passion for caring and worked her way up through the ranks with experience in several care settings, including working in both the NHS and the private sector in various parts of the UK and London. In 2000 she decided to go into the care sector and became first Deputy Manager, then General Manager before being promoted to Regional Director. She joined Barchester in 2014 in charge of 10 homes and hasn’t looked back, progressing to Senior Regional Director and then Divisional Director. She is now Managing Director of Barchester’s South Division looking after 80 homes, a role she relishes.

Natasha says: “I was so shocked when I heard I had been short-listed, I had no idea I had even been nominated! I feel very proud to be a finalist, it makes me feel rather emotional actually, it is lovely to be recognised for doing the job I love. I guess it means I must be doing something right! I’m touched that people took the time to nominate me and very thankful indeed.”

Barchester Healthcare’s CEO, Dr Pete Calveley, comments: “This nomination is very well deserved. I have had the pleasure of knowing and working alongside Natasha for over 17 years. She is exceptionally hard-working and dedicated to her teams and residents. She is an incredible leader and already very much a winner.

How we remembered the Queen

In honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, we took the time during the period of national mourning to commemorate her and pay our tributes to the Royal Family.

We created our own Memorial Area with candles and photos of the Queen, which staff, residents, families and friends could visit anytime, a place where anyone was welcome to sit in peace and reflect.

For many of our residents, the Queen represented comfort, hope and peace over the past seven decades of her sovereignty, and she will be sorely missed.
