Activities at Kenwyn Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Jubilee Tree Planting in Kenwyn

At Kenwyn, we are having lots of Jubilee themed celebrations and we look forward to sharing our news with you via our posts.

It feels as if we have all come together as Her Majesty The Queen has become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, and at Kenwyn we wanted to acknowledge that in a way that will last.

A week or so ago we decided to pop along to our local Chacewater Garden Centre with a handful of our residents.

Our mission: To select a ‘Jubilee Tree.’

After much deliberation we made a decision. In a break from the ordinary, we picked an ‘Integra Flamingo’ tree.

We waited until yesterday - the first day of the celebrations - to plant it and we thought that Marie, Kenwyn’s Manager was the best person for the job.

We have fondly renamed our tree ‘The Jubilee Marie.’

We know in years to come, as our tree blossoms, we will be able to share stories of how we celebrated 70 years of dedication and service from our Queen here at Kenwyn.

Jubilee Celebrations

As the celebrations for HRH Queen Elizabeth II Platinum jubilee rumble on, all of us here at Kenwyn couldn’t have wished for a better way to acknowledge her Majesty’s 70 years of loyal service to our Country.

With invitations sent to the local Community, residents, relatives and staff alike, we all shared in the enjoyment.

Kenwyn’s Gardens and outside space lends itself perfectly for events such as these.

With the plentiful Cornish sunshine out in full force, Kenwyn’s marvellous team all pulled together and put in admirable effort and we have enjoyed Pimms on the lawn, Cornish Cream teas, Traditional Cucumber sandwiches, Victoria Sponge and Ice Cream to cool us down, to name but a few!

To entertain us we all sang along with fabulous duo ‘Vintage Harmony’ and absolutely everyone joined in for the National Anthem.

Such Patriotic and memorable celebrations.

Sponsored Walk from Kenwyn to Falmouth Court Completed

We did it!

With sore feet, hips and toes, we got there.

We smashed our target and we are both so thankful for the support we have been shown.

We know that the Alzheimer's Society will be hugely thankful also for the awareness and funds.

It’s been a privilege to be able to support them.

Thank you!

International Cocktail Day - Kenwyn Style

Today was International Cocktail Day.

In Kenwyn this meant we got busy mixing, shaking and most importantly sampling delicious cocktails.

We all enjoyed a fun day and as you can see, the results were pretty impressive!

Creature Feature Show visits Kenwyn

This week at Kenwyn we had more important visitors - and once more they didn't all come in the human form!

Creature Feature's visited us with some wonderful animals and reptiles.

Some of our residents chose to face their fears and even held the snake! (even Kenwyn's staff had a hold!)

Everyone really enjoyed this unusual visit.

Thank you

Easter Sunday at Kenwyn

A big happy Easter from all of us here at Kenwyn.

This morning our residents enjoyed a lovely Easter breakfast (hot cross buns included). The residents then all received visits from the Activities team all dressed in their Easter Sunday attire delivering chocolate and cards from local schools. We then proceeded to engage in our Easter Sunday quiz

Also a big congratulations to Katie Cooper, the winner of our Easter competition! Katie had the closest guess of how many eggs were in our special Easter cup!
