Activities at Kenwyn Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Mini Bus trip to see the Christmas lights in Truro

And off we go!

A little earlier, and as day turned to night, we loaded up our minibus with some of Kenwyn’s wonderful residents, wrapped up warm and set off into the sparkly city of Truro to enjoy the lights and festive feel.

Truro Cathedral is a stones throw away from Kenwyn and it really is stunning whatever time of year, but this evening we all felt that little bit of magic when we saw the lights around it sparkle.

We all always enjoy a trip in our minibus and can’t wait until next time!

Christmas Light Switch on in Kenwyn

At Kenwyn we are very much feeling the festive spirit and enjoying our Countdown to Christmas.

Here you can see one of our lovely Christmas trees having its lights switched on whilst our residents watched from the warmth of our Eden lounge whilst listening to Christmas songs.

Penlee House Gallery an Museum - resident webinar

Our residents were recently treated to a very special visit from Penlee House Gallery & Museum, who joined us virtually to share and discuss artwork featured in the Gallery about Cornish life and English history. Residents were able to view the paintings over online webinar, and then discuss with the presenter about how the painting resonate with them, and memories of life and growing up in the UK. Some of the artwork featured beautiful pieces by well-known Cornish artists, and brought a sense of nostalgia to the session as everyone discussed their individual memories of life during war times and the beautiful landscapes of Britain. This is a wonderful example of how technology can provide the opportunity for our residents, and bring people together with community engagement. What an interesting and thought-provoking experience.

BT's Community Champion - Richard

This week, BT’s fantastic volunteer initiative ‘Community Companion’ reached out to Kenwyn resident Richard.

BT volunteers spend 30 minutes of their time chatting to residents here at Kenwyn about anything at all.

Volunteer Martin, and Richard chatted happily about common places of interest in Cornwall, and about Richards past which was flying planes in the Airforce. Martin asked Richard a lot of questions and showed a real interest in him.

Richard has a really great sense of humour and they shared a joke or two aswell.

We love the initiative and can’t wait until the next one!

Duane AJ Music performs a fantastic set at Kenwyn

Duane has truly become a beloved figure amongst our residents here at Kenwyn, with perhaps his biggest fans being none other than Chrissy and Jane, our Resident Ambassador, pictured with him here. They eagerly anticipate Duane's regular visits, meticulously clearing their calendars and planning their days around his sessions. What sets Duane apart is his incredible thoughtfulness toward his fans – he often includes specially planned and rehearsed songs in his sets for particular residents, creating a uniquely tailored experience for his loyal listeners. Duane not only knows how to get people dancing, but also how to warm peoples' hearts.

Kenwyn's World Cruise docks in China!

Embarking on our monthly world cruise, this week we anchored in China! It was an incredible journey, filled with laughter and learning as we explored a few Chinese words and phrases and crafted lanterns together while enjoying each other's company. The highlight was undoubtedly our culinary adventure, where our residents savoured delectable Chinese cuisine including wontons, spring rolls and prawn crackers accompanied by an array of dipping sauces. We concluded our immersive experience with fortune cookies, leaving everyone with hearts full of joy and appreciation for this beautiful culture. We can't wait for our next trip so keep your eyes open and your passports ready to join us on our next adventure!
