Activities at Lancaster Grange Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Boat trip

We have thoroughly enjoyed a sensory afternoon aboard the Newark Crusader with our residents from Lancaster Grange. We were warmly welcomed aboard by volunteers that run the wheelchair accessible cruiser at Newark Marina on the River Trent. Volunteer deckhands Jane and Pete were fantastic hosts under the watchful eye of Skipper Keith, who invited our resident Patrick to take the wheel and steer the boat under his supervision. Residents relaxed watching the beautiful scenic views from Newark to East Stoke and back again, spotting wildlife and fishermen along the way. Residents were joined by Activities Team Charlotte and Cherilyn who had arranged the annual river cruise. As a farewell treat Angela our host, was invited by resident Anne to show her appreciation for all her good work. Angela will be returning home to her family in Mongolia tomorrow after her year in the UK studying. We wish Angela a safe journey home and all the best for the future.

Family fun day

Family Fun Day was a fantastic day today at Lancaster Grange. Our Country & Western theme embraced throughout our home and we are so proud of everyone for joining in. We would like to extend our huge thanks to everyone that joined us today and made this afternoon so very special.  From the opening of the afternoon with live country and western music, performed by Dick Ryman to the arrival of the therapy horse from Pet a Pony moving on to line dancing from members of the Newark & District u3a we were just wowed. Our animal petting corner was a huge success with children and our residents with sensory animals from Michelle's Animal Therapy & Petting Party. The hog roast was delicious provided by Little Johns Hog Roast in Claypole. We would like to extend a huge thank you again, to all that helped today,  making this wonderful afternoon possible … to all our wonderful staff & volunteers and a special thank you to Jess & Freddie, from Sir William Robertson Academy we loved welcoming you back. Our family fun day was a huge success and we hope you enjoy taking a look at the pictures and the joy we all shared together

Photography day

This afternoon our residents here at Lancaster Grange came together to recognise World Photography Day. Every year on August 19 we celebrate World Photography Day to celebrate the art, craft, science, and history of photography. The day also encourages photographers from around the globe to share a single photo that encapsulates their world. Our residents were invited to bring along one of their favourite photos and tell their story. What a wonderful afternoon of sharing memories and special moments of their lives. We welcomed family members to join us on this very special afternoon. Thank you for sharing with us here at Lancaster Grange.

Varied Life enrichment activities

Over the past few days here at Lancaster Grange we’ve had a variety of socially interactive activities, visiting and supporting our local community.

Residents enjoyed a mini bus trip to Marks and Spencer  Food Hall Newark for essential shopping, before coffee & cake at Costa Coffee.

Our Pets As Therapy dog Kira and her owner Janet were both welcomed by many residents, for individual room visits on our Sherwood Community yesterday.

Residents came together for Cookery Club baking ‘Pumpkin and Maple Syrup Muffins’ recognising both Canada Day and American Independence Day. Residents and guests enjoyed them at our monthly coffee morning held this morning.

Elsie requested a wheeled walk over to our local Fernwood Polling Station to vote for the General Election, while many of our residents had already voted by post.

And finally Dave from RAF Syerston visited our residents for social discussions in our coffee shop this afternoon making new acquaintances.

Work experience at our care home

Three students were welcomed into our home this week for their work experience.

Mia and Leighla joined us from The Suthers school in Fernwood, Owen, joined us from The Carre's Grammar School in Sleaford. The students have spent the last 4 days helping and learning from The Activities Team.

Engaging with residents and participating in their Life Enrichment program has been a great experience for them and us.

The students have been amazing in taking our residents into their grounds for garden walks and talks.

We also walked over to Fernwood Park for nature walks with ice cream, and this afternoon we visited The Brews Brothers- Pub & Kitchen for refreshing drinks. The weather has been glorious and we have fully taken advantage of exploring the outdoors and visiting our community.

We appreciated  all of their help and we hope you had a great time with us at Lancaster Grange.
