Activities at Lancaster Grange Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Holding our Dog Show here at Lancaster Grange in our sunny welcoming grounds

What a fantastic day we had here at Lancaster Grange, holding our very own Dog Show.

we welcomed so many families with their dogs and our residents happily joined their loved ones and friends in our sunny grounds.

The Dogs behaved extremely well and the resident watched closely as they performed tricks and jumps, we all took turns in naming dogs for the category’s and we all agreed that we wanted to keep them all here at Lancaster Grange.

Each dog was presented with biscuits the residents had baked and a medal and certificate. We cant wait to see you all again.

Next year we will welcome Angus a visitor, that nominated himself to help with next years show.

A fantastic 4th Dog show here at Lancaster Grange care home.

Visiting our local community and garden centre at Downtown Grantham

Going out on trips is always an experience here our resident fully look forward to, Downtown in Grantham is a place all these residents used to visit when living at home. Dennis especially as an avid gardener he would pick up flowers and stop for a coffee, our resident Ann had many a trips browsing at Boundary mills, their sister store, what a great experience and we even go to see te Christmas decorating.

Yesterday a group of residents enjoyed a drive in our homes minibus here at Lancaster Grange.

Encouraging our residents to stay independent, we travelled to our local Garden Centre Superstore at Grantham, for essential shopping.

Residents were thrilled to be able to buy silk flower arrangements, bird feeder, chocolate, birthday gifts, wine all under one roof at Downtown Garden Centre, Coffee Shop.

We would like to say a big thank you to the shop assistants that helped our residents fulfil their shopping experience.

Dementia friendly coffee morning here at out care home Lancaster Grange

This morning at Lancaster Grange, we based our Dementia friendly Coffee Morning around bringing the outside - inside.

Combing Mind, Body & Soul we concentrated on our sense of smell this morning.

We researched and found.. The memory of natural smells was derived from the participants' experiences with their family, relatives, friends and themselves.

Most participants recollected flower fragrance and exhibited positive emotions directly for this memory.

This certainly was the case this morning on our community of Memory Lane, as we explored many different smells ranging from cut grass, lavender, rosemary, thyme and honey suckle.

We also visually named many flowers from our gardens this morning evoking happy memories.

Our residents socially engaged while reminiscing about Sunday dinner, what flowers they grew and also making lavender bags.

We also enjoyed delicious coffee cake baked here at Lancaster Grange, which some of our residents also recognised the flavour.

We finished our morning with hand tied flowers which we happily placed in our dining room, for us all to admire.

Our Memory Lane Moments of Joy.

Boat trip

We have thoroughly enjoyed a sensory afternoon aboard the Newark Crusader with our residents from Lancaster Grange. We were warmly welcomed aboard by volunteers that run the wheelchair accessible cruiser at Newark Marina on the River Trent. Volunteer deckhands Jane and Pete were fantastic hosts under the watchful eye of Skipper Keith, who invited our resident Patrick to take the wheel and steer the boat under his supervision. Residents relaxed watching the beautiful scenic views from Newark to East Stoke and back again, spotting wildlife and fishermen along the way. Residents were joined by Activities Team Charlotte and Cherilyn who had arranged the annual river cruise. As a farewell treat Angela our host, was invited by resident Anne to show her appreciation for all her good work. Angela will be returning home to her family in Mongolia tomorrow after her year in the UK studying. We wish Angela a safe journey home and all the best for the future.

Photography day

This afternoon our residents here at Lancaster Grange came together to recognise World Photography Day. Every year on August 19 we celebrate World Photography Day to celebrate the art, craft, science, and history of photography. The day also encourages photographers from around the globe to share a single photo that encapsulates their world. Our residents were invited to bring along one of their favourite photos and tell their story. What a wonderful afternoon of sharing memories and special moments of their lives. We welcomed family members to join us on this very special afternoon. Thank you for sharing with us here at Lancaster Grange.
