Activities at Lanercost House Care Home
Our dedicated Activities Coordinators offer a wide range of mentally and physically stimulating activities for residents and families to enjoy. There are regular outings in the minibus to places of interest, such as local cafes, garden centres and parks, as well as visits from entertainers, musicians and singers - and also from PAT dogs. We host various events, such as themed days, cheese & wine evenings, in addition to offering one-to-one activity sessions, including pampering, games and puzzles. Our activities staff strive to ensure residents participate in any way they can with activities that reflect their capabilities and interests.
Emily Stubbs
I joined the Lanercost House family in June 2021 as a Care Assistant and then joined the activities team in May 2022.
I love bringing joy and fun to residents, relatives, and staff on a daily basis as well as planning and organising themed days, events, and celebrations.
I think the activities’ role is very important for Residents' well-being. Whether they like to keep active with armchair exercises, join in with our weekly quiz or hop in the minibus for a day out - there is something for everyone. I aim to ensure that each Resident's interests and hobbies are supported.
I am passionate about creative and sensory activities and I love to sing and dance together with Residents. I love my job!

Life at Lanercost House Care Home
Christmas Carols at Lanercost House
Heavenly voices rang out at Lanercost House care home in Carlisle as the community came together to celebrate Christmas with a carol concert.
Residents, relatives, and staff at Lanercost House got in the Christmas spirit by inviting the community to come and join in with a carol concert to sing some festive Christmas favorites.
The singing was led by the Castle Gate choir, which came to our Home for an essential reason. Sadie, a resident at Lanercost House, used to sing in this choir and it was lovely to see Sadie singing together with her daughter besides.
There was mulled wine, hot drinks, cakes, and mince pies for everyone to enjoy. What a lovely afternoon we had!
A Christmas Trip
Some of our residents and activities team here at Lanercost House care home in Carlisle, have been going on a mission. We were delighted to bring a kind donation from all Lanercost House to our little friends at Newtown Primary school and ended our journey at Houghton Hall garden centre to purchase some Christmas presents and enjoyed a nice cappuccino with the cakes.
Donkey Sanctuary
Across our services, Residents enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of the Donkey Sanctuary Manchester. Residents were thrilled to meet the lovely herd of donkeys, including Henry and his best friend Tiny Tim and to learn more about their every day care. They were introduced to the sanctuary’s work and the impact they make to the lives of donkeys in need worldwide. The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.
Getting into the festive spirit!

Taking place this year on Friday 18th November, Children in Need raises money to help support local charities and projects which are providing essential frontline help to children and young people in communities throughout the UK. Staff and residents donned their favourite pyjamas for the day and were treated to a mobile sweet shop where they could choose from a variety of sweets all to raise money for an important charity.
Celebrating 30 Years of Barchester
To celebrate Barchester’s 30th Anniversary, Lanercost House threw open its doors for a fantastic party and everyone was invited!
The party had a 90s theme with live music from Billy Walker along with a fantastic cake made by housekeeping assistant Gergana and scones by head chef James for everyone to enjoy. Residents and staff enjoyed listening to and dancing to the music.
