Activities at Lanercost House Care Home
Our dedicated Activities Coordinators offer a wide range of mentally and physically stimulating activities for residents and families to enjoy. There are regular outings in the minibus to places of interest, such as local cafes, garden centres and parks, as well as visits from entertainers, musicians and singers - and also from PAT dogs. We host various events, such as themed days, cheese & wine evenings, in addition to offering one-to-one activity sessions, including pampering, games and puzzles. Our activities staff strive to ensure residents participate in any way they can with activities that reflect their capabilities and interests.
Emily Stubbs
I joined the Lanercost House family in June 2021 as a Care Assistant and then joined the activities team in May 2022.
I love bringing joy and fun to residents, relatives, and staff on a daily basis as well as planning and organising themed days, events, and celebrations.
I think the activities’ role is very important for Residents' well-being. Whether they like to keep active with armchair exercises, join in with our weekly quiz or hop in the minibus for a day out - there is something for everyone. I aim to ensure that each Resident's interests and hobbies are supported.
I am passionate about creative and sensory activities and I love to sing and dance together with Residents. I love my job!

Life at Lanercost House Care Home
Claire's Cool Creatures
What an amazing experience we had!
All the residents and staff enjoyed seeing all the different creatures and learning about what they do, eat and their background. We loved being able to hold each animal and some of us were brave enough to face our fears doing so!
Thank you so much Claire's Cool Creatures we enjoyed meeting you and all your creatures.
Christmas jumper day
We all got in the festive spirit and made the day fun filled for our Residents. James from Music for Health came to do some exercises for the mind body and soul. Residents enjoy doing the different exercises with instruments, pom pom's and voices, singing some well-known Christmas carols.
Christmas Jumper Day is Save the Children's annual event which raises money for the children who need it most.
Every December, millions of people across the United Kingdom (and beyond!) put on a festive knit at their workplace, school or with friends and make a donation to help give children the magical future they deserve.
Christmas Day Visit from Santa
It has been a magical Christmas Day at Lanercost House.
Father Christmas and his helpers came to visit to deliver personalised gifts to all our Residents.
We indulged in a three course Christmas dinner was beautifully made and tasted divine.
It was a truly magical day, everyone had smiles on their faces and it was certainly a day to remember.
Our Christmas Fete
What a joy it was to bring Staff, Residents, Family and the local community together for our Christmas Fete.
Visitors had stalls to browse around, with local crafters selling their wares from personalised Christmas baubles, to jewellery and many more handmade craft items.
There was something for the children too, with face painting and visits to see Santa in his winter wonderland grotto.
The team at Lanercost would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day a success, for everyone who came along and supported the home and to those who donated prizes to the raffle – there were lots of winners!
We can't wait to do it all again next year!
Merry Christmas Everyone!
Christmas Cake Competition
Residents and Staff have been getting creative and putting their baking skills to the test for the Barchester Christmas Cake Competition.
Residents came together to make a plan about what type of cake would be best to make. They decided a Christmas wreath would look the best, so we found the perfect recipe and started to create the masterpiece. Everyone got involved making different elements of the cake. We are thrilled with the final result. We hope you agree!
A trip to the Christmas Markets
Residents and staff wrapped up warm and paid a visit to Carlisle Christmas markets.
It was a fun filled day and Residents had a brilliant time visiting all the stalls and sampling the festive food and drink on offer. They were particularly impressed by the range of home made items for sale. It was a real treat.
In the weeks running up to Christmas Residents and staff have been getting into the Christmas spirit by decorating the home, singing carols and eating mince pies.
