Activities at Latimer Court Care Home

Here at Latimer Court, we have a varied social programme that includes themed events once a month, painting classes, day trips out, exercise classes and arts & crafts, to name but a few. We strive to tailor our activities to suit everyone's needs, and update our notice boards weekly so that all families and visitors can see what their loved ones have been up to. Paper Creativity Afternoon

The residents at Latimer Court have been making and decorating papier-mache bowls and vases, now dry, they spent time making paper flowers, and using artificial flowers to create beautiful flower arrangements for their rooms.

Guess what's in the box?

The activities team have set up a great new sensory activity for our residents, feeling around inside a box and having to figure out what the item is they are holding. We all had a really good laugh; you wouldn't believe the suggestions they all came up with!

Knit & Natter Afternoon

Our wonderful ladies group spent the aftenoon together, kntting and nattering over tea and sherry. What a way to relax!

‘A picture paints a thousand words’

What an ingenious, yet simple solution to ease the worry and confusion many of our residents feel when greeted by staff wearing the mandatory facemask.

Staff had noticed that certain residents, particularly those within our Memory Lane communities, found it extremely difficult to identify individual carers; in covering our facial expressions, facemasks hide our emotions and those facial signs many older people rely on.

General Manager; Kerry Hill arranged for a delivery of large ‘clear’ clip-on holders to carry a full-face smiling photo of each staff member at Latimer Court Care Home, in Worcester.

Being able to view the 'full-face' photo has certainly helped ease resident worries. It serves as a quick visual aid and they are beginning to recognise staff again by name through the smiling image. Staff have noted improvements in relationships with those they care for, leading to a more relaxed environment and meaningful interactions.

Art, Sherry and Sunshine

Our Beaufort ladies made some papier-mâché bowls back in March. Pam our activities assistant joined them on the terrace to decorate and paint in the sunshine with a tot of sherry. They will be putting a second coat on and painting the inside, will put in some oasis for those who want to create their own flower displays. Some wish to just make them into little jewellery bowls for their rings and keepsakes.

Bedroom Ornament making

Over the weekend several of our Memory Lane residents enjoyed and afternoon making some salt dough models and leaving to set ready to paint. They will decorate to make ornaments for their rooms over the coming days. We're all looking forward to seeing the final creations.
