Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert

Senior Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies.  We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.

Residents wish comes true

Wishes came true this festive period as residents Margaret and Lynda at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home had their wish granted in partnership with Wensleydale Railway.  Always looking to prove the age old adage ‘it’s never too late’ the home created an initiative named ‘Wish Upon A Star At Leeming Bar’, which support residents to live life to the full and continue to make meaningful memories.

Margaret had always spoken fondly of steam locomotives with Margaret’s father working as a train driver. When the friends were speaking about how much they would love to take another ride on a stream train the team got to work in making this wish a reality. When Senior Activities Coordinator Kim Calvert reached out to Wensleydale Railway they were only happy to oblige in making the ladies wish a reality with an invitation to take a journey on the most magical train journey of their lives; The Polar Express!

Community Carolling

On the lead up to Christmas we were very lucky to be visited by Rev'd Simon Moor & lovely parishioners from Bedale Benefice of Churches for some traditional carolling, along with a little Yorkshire twist on 'While Shepherds Watched'; singing this to the tune of 'On Ilkley Moor Bar t'At'!

Residents sang their hearts out as the traditional carols brought back fond memories of the festive season

A huge thank you to Rev'd Simon & parishioners for bringing everyone together through music & sharing in the festive spirit.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Residents & the team came together for a festive panto & sing along with their own little production of The Wizard of Oz!

Whilst everyone did a great job, it was agreed that The Cowardly Lion aka Jack the Dog from Jack, Alf, Bill and Ted too really did steal the show!

A HUGE thank you to Jack and Mum Wendy who didn't bat an eyelid when asked to play the part of the scarecrow!

A Victorian Christmas!

December marked the anniversary of the publication of Dickens old classic 'A Christmas Carol' so what better way to celebrate than with an afternoon of Victorian popular repertoire!

In full period attire the wonderful trio known as The Bold Balladiers performed of an array of beautifully unique music from the Edwardian & Victorian eras; with each piece telling a story to captivate all!

A huge thank you to the incredibly talented Bold Balladiers for a fantastic afternoon!

A Very Special Invitation

This week residents were very kindly invited to Aiskew Leeming Bar Primary for a fabulous performance of their 'Lights, Camera, Action' Christmas concert

The children absolutely wowed residents with their creativity and beautiful singing!

Thank you so much to the children & Aiskew, Leeming Bar team for creating huge festive smiles that have lasted all week!

Yuletide Extravaganza!

Today the festivities continued with a fun-filled silent disco from Pete Goldup - The Silent Disco DJ!

The home was transformed into a discotheque as residents, loved ones, and the team danced their stockings off to their favourite Christmas and disco tunes!

Due to the fantastic bluetooth technology residents were also able to enjoy the disco experience from the comfort of their bedrooms; ensuring residents are able engage in a way that is most meaningful to them.

The biggest of thankyous to DJ Pete for another day of merriment!
