Activities at Lochduhar Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Lochduhar Care Home

Trick or Treat Fun at Lochduhar

Residents have been preparing for trick-or-treaters and were not disappointed when the children from local primary school, St Teases visited to show off their spook-tastic costumes and enjoyed some Halloween fun and games.

It was a fun-filled visit with everyone enjoying apple bobbing, pumpkin carving, sharing jokes and singing songs which brought back childhood memories for our residents who shared their past experiences with the children. The home often hosts intergenerational visits at the home which are positively welcomed by the residents.

 Residents Enjoy Tai Chi Session

Residents Enjoy Tai Chi Session

Residents recently enjoyed an afternoon of tranquil music and gentle exercise in the form of Tai Chi which enhance their mind and soul as they worked through the gentle movements to keep them supple. They were joined by family members and it was a wonderful interactive session for all.  During the group activity, Reidents were very interested in learning more about Tai Chi, including the health benefits, different styles and its history.

Baking Afternoon

Residents enjoy one of their many interactive group sessions as they came together to enjoy an afternoon baking something yummy together. All residents had a part to play, be it bashing digestives, melting chocolate or mixing it all together.

It was great to see all the good bakers reminiscing over their tasty treats, which were enjoyed by all over a cup of tea!

It's a Goal!

A Lochduhar resident has been a supporter of our local football team, Queen of the South for many years, and wanted to revisit the ground. With a little help, George’s wish was granted, as he enjoyed a morning reminiscing about the past and talking about the present players with other supporters over a hot pie and a cup of Bovril. The highlight of the morning was when he got out on to the football pitch to save some goals!

Musical Entertainment

Residents at Lochduhar enjoyed an afternoon of singing and dancing as they welcomed local entertainers into the home for some live music.

Everyone had a lovely time singing their favourite songs. When they weren’t singing, they were dancing. It was a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

Summer Fête

Lochduhar held its annual summer fête on Saturday 25th August, where there were a host of stalls and entertainment on offer to guests. As the weather was kind to us, there was a great turn out, and guests were entertained by DG Cheerleading, Dumfries Baton Twirlers and Karen Little’s Highland Dancers. In total, £574.96 was raised for the residents' social fund. Thank you everyone who volunteered and supported the event.
