Reminiscence On The Big Screen

Magnolia Court has a regular visitor who holds wonderful reminiscence sessions. Last week we had a focus on famous women in history.

Residents loved to see the remarkable women in history and the difference they made. We all agree that times have changed for the better for women and we could not possibly pick one of out the many to choose as our favourite or most memorable.

We did all agree that this quote was particularly powerful - “We are here, not because we are law-breakers; we are here in our efforts to become law-makers.” – Emmeline Pankhurst, leader of the UK suffragette movement.

Purim Celebrations.

We had a wonderful time celebration the Jewish Festival of Purim. Residents and staff were treated to a visit from the kind individuals who volunteer for the charity called Gift.

Purim is a festive day of merry-making when it’s common to dress in costume in order to add to the carnival-esque atmosphere of the holiday which also includes feasting and drinking. The practice traces back centuries, possibly to medieval Italy and the fact that Purim tends to coincide with Mardi Gras on the calendar. Masquerading also ties into the theme of hidden identity that runs through the Purim story.

Residents were delighted to receive a bag of goodies and to see the visitors dressed up in their best fancy dress. It truly was a very colourful and happy occasion.

We celebrated St Patrick’s Day in style recently, in recognition of the patron saint and national apostle of Ireland.

Our beautiful home was decorated with shamrocks and everyone enjoyed exploring the Irish culture through a variety of themed activities.

Residents and their loved ones marked the day by making shamrock decorations, learning some Irish words and phrases, enjoying Irish dances and of course listening to Irish music from an Irishman, Michael O'Hare.

The talented chef Ya prepared fantastic spreads of traditional Irish dishes for all to enjoy, all washed down with Guinness or Irish whiskey.

It was a brilliant day, enjoyed by all.

Today Magnolia Court launched their very first Social Singing Group led by Sophie from Vocally Sound.

Resident were joined by their loved ones and members of our local community in Hampstead

We sang along to song's including My Way, Sweet Caroline and lovely day and it really was a lovely day.

Celebrating The Women In Our Lives

We started the celebrations on Mothering Sunday, we had a wonderful party with live music from Jess who can sing and play a whole host of instruments that were quite literally music to our ears! Residents had a splendid afternoon with their loved ones.

Later in the week the ladies decorated the home with beautiful floral arrangement, the colours and fragrances were gorgeous. 

and to top of the week we had a lovely pamper afternoon, because who doesn't enjoy feeling and looking their best.

Love is in the Air

What a beautiful day we had yesterday. Rooms were filled with fresh flowers, cards, balloons and decorations as residents, friends and family celebrated the day of love in style.

Throughout the day, everyone got involved in fun-filled activities, including wellness and reminiscence sessions, music therapy and many more. Some residents gifted their loved ones a red rose which brought such joy to the recipient.

Michael O'Hare delivered an amazing Valentine’s Day performance for all to enjoy. Residents sang the famous love hits: ‘Love Is in the Air’ and ‘All You Need Is Love’.

It was a lovely day and so heart walming to see everyone enjoying the day and spending time with the people they love.
