Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Birthday Wish!

We have had such a wonderful day celebrating resident Kate’s birthday. Kate is loved by residents and staff on Memory Lane and she enjoys engaging in conversation. Kate loves being outside and asked to go to the park for her birthday. We jumped in the bus with her friends and headed down and it was such a lovely morning.

We enjoyed looking around the park at all the beautiful flowers and saying hello to everyone walking by. We saw lots of dogs enjoying a walk and swimming in the river.

Everyone was looking forward to an ice cream but unfortunately the ice cream parlour was closed. However this didn’t stop us from getting an ice cream, we took a detour home and stopped at McDonald’s, per the birthday girls requested and enjoyed a McFlurry. We truly hope you had a fabulous birthday Kate!

Cadbury's Virtual Event

Residents across our services had a wonderful time joining Cadbury for an interactive virtual talk on their fascinating 200-year history.

Residents joining learnt interesting facts about the chocolate giant, shared memories, and reminisced about their favourite sweet treats.

It was a heart-warming experience filled with laughter, nostalgia, and plenty of chocolatey goodness!

International Firefighters Day

Residents and staff at Maple Leaf Lodge honoured their local firefighters by inviting their local fire crew to the home to enjoy a delicious breakfast prepared by their wonderful kitchen to thank the firefighters stationed there for their selfless service keeping the community safe.

Coinciding with Saint Florian’s Day, International Firefighters’ Day is celebrated around the world. Saint Florian, who was said to be one of the first commanding firefighters of a Roman battalion, saved many lives and is the patron saint of firefighters.  The event was created in 1999 after five firefighters died tragically in a wildfire in Australia to highlight the sacrifices made by fire crews around the world who all unite in the fight against one common enemy – fire.

The fire crew welcomed residents and staff to look around the fire engine and water the plants with the hose. Ron, a resident at the home said, “I wasn’t expecting the hose to be as heavy as it was.”

St George's Day

Residents and staff have paid tribute to our patron saint, St George, celebrated for his legendary courage and unwavering sense of honour. We came together to wave the flag of St George. We have celebrated all that makes England great.

Our fabulous kitchen team made traditional British dishes for all to enjoy at lunch time. We sang classic British songs and tested our British knowledge. Resident Dotty said “I love celebrating the country and all its greatness.”

Flower Arranging

Residents have been busy making beautiful flower displays to display around the home. We have many residents who share a love of flower arranging and they make such beautiful displays. Resident Iris said “She likes using flowers with lots of colour!”

We also took full advantage of the weather today and residents enjoyed a stroll in the garden. Resident Jacqueline loved the lavender and took some inside with her to keep.

Come sing!

Residents across our homes and hospitals had a fantastic time with vocal coach Dan Cooper from Biiah as he led an amazing sing-a-long session for residents to enjoy.

Residents who joined the event were able to learn different techniques as they sang the famous ‘I Can See Clearly Now’ by Jimmy Cliff and ‘Here Comes the Sun’ by The Beatles.

Across our homes there were smiles and laugher all around. The session was such a success and was great for the mind, body and soul.
