Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Courtney Doncaster
My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.
I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.
We are always open to new ideas so please join us for a chat at any time.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

Dog walk
Staff and residents have been getting moving and putting the ‘fun’ into ‘fundraising’ as we held a dog walk in our garden to raise money for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation. We welcomed in fury companions Pippa, Milo and Winnie and our tiny friends from Dancing Daffodils.
Residents were thrilled to be joined by some fury friends, playing, walking them around the garden and giving them lots of fuss and treats, in an attempt for us to log move minutes for Barchester get moving for the charitable foundation.
Everyone was delighted to see the dogs and children. Resident Sylvia said it was lovely to listen to the children having so much fun.

Celebrating National Carers Week
Residents at Maple Leaf Lodge celebrating National Carers’ Week, which takes place from June 10-16. Residents wanted to thank all the wonderful staff at the home, whose hard work and dedication make a real difference to the lives of those living in their care.
Carers Week is an annual event to raise awareness of caring, highlighting the challenges carers face, and recognising the contribution they make to our residents, families and communities throughout the UK. The theme for Carers Week this year is ‘putting carers on the map’ to try to raise awareness in an election year for the huge contribution carers make to society.

Wonders of the ocean
Residents across our services enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of The Deep, an award-winning aquarium in Hull.
Our residents dived into the underwater world of some fascinating creatures such as sharks, turtles and stingrays.
It was a truly immersive and educational experience that brought the wonders of the ocean right to our screens.

Century celebrations for Winnie
Winnie was joined by staff, relatives, friends and other residents as she received a telegram from the King and Queen in recognition of her landmark birthday. A morning tea and was enjoyed by all and everyone enjoyed a special birthday cake and personalised cupcakes made by the home’s laundry assistant Kayleigh.
Winnie was a much loved staff member at Ruston and Hornsby’s, in Grantham. Winnie had 3 children, Andrew, Linda and Ann. When they started to grow up she took on an admin role at the Walton Girls High School and enjoyed meeting people and making friends. Winnie has told us that the key to a happy life is to smile, even on the dark days.
Courtney, Activity Coordinator added: “We’re delighted to be celebrating a truly remarkable women as she reaches this amazing milestone. Winnie is such a popular resident who always has an interesting tale to tell, and we look forward to hearing many more as she breaks into her next century.”

Baking Club
Maple Leaf Lodge’s weekly baking club is so popular with all of our residents. This week’s bake, biscoff rocky road! In preparation for today’s session, resident Dotty handed out aprons to everyone and resident Liz helped clean the tables so we had a tidy station to bake. A very fun and messy hour indeed!
Our fantastic kitchen team were on hand to help with the weighing and measuring. When everything was mixed up and spooned onto trays, resident Barbara popped them in the fridge.
We ate our rocky road with a cup of beautiful fresh coffee in the lounge listening to musical classics. Just Bliss! Residents have already started looking at recipes for next week’s Baking Club.

Birthday Wish!
We have had such a wonderful day celebrating resident Kate’s birthday. Kate is loved by residents and staff on Memory Lane and she enjoys engaging in conversation. Kate loves being outside and asked to go to the park for her birthday. We jumped in the bus with her friends and headed down and it was such a lovely morning.
We enjoyed looking around the park at all the beautiful flowers and saying hello to everyone walking by. We saw lots of dogs enjoying a walk and swimming in the river.
Everyone was looking forward to an ice cream but unfortunately the ice cream parlour was closed. However this didn’t stop us from getting an ice cream, we took a detour home and stopped at McDonald’s, per the birthday girls requested and enjoyed a McFlurry. We truly hope you had a fabulous birthday Kate!
