Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Courtney Doncaster
My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.
I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.
We are always open to new ideas so please join us for a chat at any time.

Life at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home
Mothers Day
Mother’s Day is a day to show love, gratitude and appreciation to all the wonderful mums and caregivers everywhere.
Residents and staff were spoilt with flowers and chocolates, followed by a scrumptious afternoon tea prepared by our head chef Andrew. Residents reminisced about their roles as mothers and what their favourite part about being a mum is. Resident Winnie said her favourite thing is watching them grow up. Resident Ivy said her favourite thing is creating memories.
International Women's Day
All the women in our home have been showered with love and appreciation making the day all about them. Residents have been pampered and been discussing all the amazing women in their lives.
As a home throughout March we are raising money through our Easter raffle and all money raised will be donated to the WI. Resident Dotty acted as the secretary at the WI and she has told us it means so much to her to be able to raise money for an organisation she was once part of. If you would like to buy tickets for the raffle they can be brought from the reception team.
World Book Day
We celebrated world book day with a dress up of different characters. We had Snow White, an oompa lumpa and a lobster.
Residents were full of laughter at the staff dressing up as they visited each community - we discussed our favourtie books and books our residents used to read their children. Our bookcases were then re stocked with new books for residents to read. To finish our afternoon off we listened to the audio book of Elvis which residents on our Memory Lane Community enjoyed listening to.
London Ladies
As part of our International Women’s Day celebrations, Residents from across our services were thrilled to join tour guide, Mandy Morrow, for an exciting talk about some Legendary London Ladies.
Mandy shared the fascinating stories of eight ladies with us, from the one of the richest heiresses in the world to the original 'Roaring Girl'.
Everyone who participated truly enjoyed the experience and were delighted to take a walk down memory lane.
Eyes down for bingo bonzana
Across the country our homes and hospitals came together to find out which care home or hospital had the best Bingo players as we teamed up for Barchester’s Bingo Bonanza.
Residents were treated to some exciting virtual games of Bingo as part of Barchester’ very own game show series.
Everyone who participate had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.
National Bird Box Week
Nest box week is celebrated between 14th - 21st February. This marks the beginning of the breeding season for birds. It is an annual observation that motivates people to make nest boxes.
The wonderful students at Grantham College & University Centre and their carpentry tutor Andrew, kindly made some bird boxes to put out in our garden for residents to enjoy. We would like to thank the students for making these boxes for us.
The students carefully designed and made the boxes and delivered them to the residents. Resident Doreen said how lovely they were and she can’t wait to see them fill up with birds.
