Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Courtney Doncaster

Activities Coordinator

My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.

I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity  to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.

We are always open to new ideas so please join us for a chat at any time.

Oh!! I do like to be beside the seaside!

Throughout the week residents have been enjoying a trip out over to Skegness. Each visit was filled with joy as our residents enjoyed some delicious fish and chips, all while the sounds of waves crashing and seagulls calling filled the air.

Being at the beach brought so many benefits to our residents - the fresh sea air, the calming sound of the waves, and the warmth of the sun on their faces.

Cuppa with a Coppa

We welcomed the lovely PCSO Everitt from Grantham Police for our cuppa with a coppa event.

Rowena is part of our local Police Community Support Officers and residents and staff were excited to learn all about her role as PCSO and what it entailed, she also listened to stories that our residents shared. She kindly showed us her car and the blue light, plus all the equipment she has with her in her boot.

Resident Anne said “I found it really interesting and it was lovely that she took time out of her day to visit us”

Homes join 100th virtual event

Barchester care homes and hospitals nationwide linked together for a fantastic quiz in celebration of Barchester’s 100th live virtual event.

Residents engaged in a variety of questions ranging from historical trivia to visual puzzles and brainteasers.

Everyone who joined had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

A wish come true

We were so happy to make resident Liz’s wish come true by taking her to Little Jacks Farm and Garden Centre, proving the old adage, it’s never too late.

Liz has lived at Maple Leaf Lodge for a year and is beloved my staff and residents alike. Staff were aware of how much Liz loved animals when we had a mobile zoo visit the home, Liz has always been eager to cuddle, fuss and feed the animals. Each time a dog visits the home she is always there and she takes very good care of our therapy cat in the home. After the team speaking to her family it was clear that taking Liz to a farm would be her perfect wish.

We all scream for ice cream

We had the absolute pleasure to be joined by Grantham college daybreak centre today to make some delicious ice cream sundaes.

We all gathered together to talk everything ice cream, we discovered who’s a plain Jane and who goes crazy with lots of toppings. We had a variety of sauce, fruits, biscuits and sprinkles to decorate our creations.

We also made our entry sundae for the Barchester competition. Our creation is called ‘Maplelicious’ full of maple syrup, banana, walnuts and much more deliciousness.

Resident Peggy said “It’s been a lovely morning, they were so polite and it would be nice to see them again.

Summer Fete brings community together

Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together to enjoy a circus themed Summer Fete that was held in the home’s grounds. Maple Leaf Lodge hosted a variety of activities throughout the day, including a BBQ, tombola stall, live entertainment from the amazing Grantham U3A band, a bouncy castle, local stall holders and much more.

Staff at the home made everyone feel welcome, dressing up in their best circus outfits and were delighted to see different generations having fun together. Visitors enjoyed plenty of refreshments and delicious BBQ food prepared by the catering team, who were hard at work making sure that a great time was had by all – it really was a team effort!
