Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Courtney Doncaster

Activities Coordinator

My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.

I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity  to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.

We are always open to new ideas so please join us for a chat at any time.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Happy New Year

All the staff and residents wish you all a very happy and healthy New Year. We can’t wait for 2025 and all the exciting things it holds.

Slimming World Christmas Donations

Maple Leaf Lodge care home, in Grantham, got in the Christmas spirit as the members of Slimming World kindly delivered gifts for residents. Christmas really is the most wonderful time of the year and our fantastic residents love to get festive, so we are absolutely delighted by the kindness, thoughtfulness and love that has been shared among the incredible Grantham ‘Slimming World’ community who have been so kind.

Elf Day

We swapped our uniforms for costumes on National Elf Day in an effort to raise awareness and funds to help people living with dementia.

Lots of elves flooded the home today hoping to make people smile and they did exactly that! A big Thankyou to John and his choir friends for coming a long for a festive singalong which has been enjoyed by all!

Christmas Dementia Cafe

Our dementia cafe is open for all to come along and meet others who are supporting friends and family living with dementia. We sat with Tim talking everything festive, what we have planned for Christmas and much more.

Tim then kindly took resident Ron’s watch to town to be mended and bought some beautiful flowers back for resident Anne.

A Christmas Carol with the Old Vic

Across our homes we’ve had the most wonderful time celebrating the festive season with a special screening of 2020’s OLD VIC: IN CAMERA – A Christmas Carol.

This beautifully staged production brought the magic of Dickens’ classic tale right into our homes. A huge thank you to The Old Vic theatre for sharing this incredible performance with us. It was a truly wonderful experience.

St Andrews Day celebrations

St Andrews Day is typically celebrated on 30th November annually. The day emerges as a momentous celebration of national pride and heritage. The day honours scotlands patron saint, Saint Andrew, while also embracing the rich tapestry of Scottish culture and tradition.

We welcomed Grantham U3A group for some wonderful Scottish dancing. Before each performance residents were told the name of the dance and a story behind its name. During our tea break we all enjoyed Scottish snacks including, shortbread, Tunnocks tea cakes and caramel chocolate wafers. Resident Ann, who is from Scotland, said “watching the dancing reminds of being a little girl and dancing.” The day has been enjoyed by all.
