Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.

I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity  to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.

Life at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

Gentlemans Club

Often men in care homes can experience social isolation meaning we work extremely hard to put on activities that our gentleman will enjoy. Our gents club is a great way for our residents to sit back and unwind, a glass of refreshing beer is an added bonus.

Our residents enjoyed watching old football matches. Resident Brian is a Nottingham forest supporter and we enjoyed watching a football match from 1979.

Dancing Daffodils Visit

What a lovely morning we have had with a visit from our wonderful friends at Dancing Daffodils.

Residents love seeing our friends as it brings them so much joy. They have built up beautiful friendships with residents who have been coming for all the visits and started new friendships with our new resident’s.

We have all enjoyed playing the game of ‘don’t let the balloon touch the floor,’ playing with the cars, reading books and our favourite part was dressing up in wigs and Easter bunny ears.

Before the children went home resident Liz handed out Easter eggs to all the children to enjoy.

Harrogate Chocolate Factory

We had a brilliant time across our services with Harrogate Skills 4 Living as they took us on a wonderful virtual visit to their Harrogate Chocolate Factory.

Residents were thrilled to discover details about the chocolate-making process and the fascinating journey from bean to bar, all while enjoying some delicious sweet treats.

The Factory aims to employ people with learning disabilities and autism, involving them in all parts of the process, from sorting and roasting the beans to packaging and sales. The experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined this event.

Beat The Clock

We continue to celebrate a varied life enrichment programme and across our services we linked up with other Barchester care homes and hospitals up and down the country for some interactive Beat the Clock games.

Our residents truly enjoyed solving word puzzles, conundrums and mathematical problems as part of Barchester’s very own game show series.

Everyone who joined had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

St Patrick's Day

Residents and staff at Maple Leaf Lodge in Grantham celebrated all things Irish for St Patrick’s Day this week. The home was decorated with shamrocks and everyone dressed in green to mark the day.

Held on March 17th, Saint Patrick's Day actually observes the death of St Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, but the day has come to be a huge celebration of Irish heritage and culture.

Staff and residents at the home marked the day by taking part in some Irish dancing and dressing in accessories inspired by Ireland. Head chef Andrew prepared a fantastic Irish spread with Irish soup as well as Irish stew all washed down with Guinness whilst enjoying dessert, an apple pie with a twist, the apples were soaked in Irish whiskey.

General Manager, Kerry Angeloni said: “Our residents have all had a brilliant day today, everyone has enjoyed the festivities – I think we all agree St Patrick’s Day is the best of all the saints days!  We had a fantastic time listening to Irish music and watching Irish dancing, we sampled some lovely Irish whiskeys too.”

Nutrition and Hydration Week

Nutrition and Hydration Week celebrates and encourages healthy eating and hydration. Its purpose is to bring people together to understand the value of food and drink in maintaining health and wellbeing in health and social care.

Our wonderful kitchen team have been preparing healthy snacks and drinks for residents and staff to enjoy.

Residents on Memory Lane have also been busy baking some healthy lemon cupcakes which resident Jean said tasted delicious. Throughout the week we discovered residents favourite fruits and resident Brian said his favourite was strawberries.
