Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Courtney Doncaster
My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.
I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.
We are always open to new ideas so please join us for a chat at any time.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

Summer Fete brings community together
Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together to enjoy a circus themed Summer Fete that was held in the home’s grounds. Maple Leaf Lodge hosted a variety of activities throughout the day, including a BBQ, tombola stall, live entertainment from the amazing Grantham U3A band, a bouncy castle, local stall holders and much more.
Staff at the home made everyone feel welcome, dressing up in their best circus outfits and were delighted to see different generations having fun together. Visitors enjoyed plenty of refreshments and delicious BBQ food prepared by the catering team, who were hard at work making sure that a great time was had by all – it really was a team effort!

Charity Cook Off
Staff and residents are celebrating because their wonderful Managing Director, Fiona Fagan, from Barchester’s North East and Scotland Division, has stepped completely out of her comfort zone to compete in the Barchester Charitable Foundation Cook Off 2024.
Fiona went head-to-head with the Managing Directors from Barchester’s four other divisions and cooked up a storm to raise a phenomenal £24,595 for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation which helps connect vulnerable people and those living with a disability to community groups in their local area by providing grants to improve mobility and quality of life. Each year the Foundation distributes thousands of pounds to individuals, small community groups and charities across England, Scotland and Wales.

Local company, LeisureBench, have donated garden furniture to Maple Leaf Lodge. .The company, LeisureBench, are an industry leading trade supplier of quality outdoor furniture. Originally founded in Melton Mowbray, opened in Old Wharf Road in 2023. The generous company wanted to reach out to the local community, and do something good by donating garden furniture for all in the care home to enjoy.
Residents, staff and relatives at the home were touched by the company’s thoughtfulness and are very much looking forward to relaxing out in the sun, sat on the new furniture received. The home are very grateful and can’t thank the company enough for their generosity.

Virtual trip to Eden Project
Residents across our homes had a fantastic time exploring the Eden Project virtually - an educational charity and visitor attraction based in Cornwall, featuring sprawling outdoor gardens and breathtaking biomes that house the largest indoor rainforest in the world.
During the session, residents who joined were reconnected with nature through their senses, memories and stories. A big thank you to the community team at the Eden Project for the wonderful event.

Flower walk
This morning some our lovely residents took a trip down to Wyndham Park for a flower walk. We each had a piece of cardboard with a vase drawn on, on our walk we picked flowers to put through to create a beautiful design.
Wyndham Park, Grantham is one of our favourite places to visit, especially on a hot day, we saw the ducks, a variety of beautiful flowers, some beautiful dogs that we got to fuss and enjoyed chatting to lots of different people who were also soaking up the sunshine.
Before heading home we had to of course get an ice cream, majority had chocolate and we had to eat it quick as the sun was beaming down and melting away all the deliciousness.
