Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Courtney Doncaster
My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.
I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.

Raising Funds For The Greyhound Trust
Kind-hearted relatives and staff from Barchester’s Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home have been coordinating a collection of dog gifts such as toys, blankets, treats and food to give to Lincolnshire Greyhound Trust, who is now the number 1 adoption group in terms of numbers homed and recorded on Greyhound data.
Staff members Courtney and Wanda went to the trust to donate the Christmas sacks of presents for the greyhounds where they met Jade, who does a wonderful job looking after the greyhounds. She kindly allowed us to meet the beautiful dogs who were full of happiness and wanted lots of fuss.
Maple Leaf Lodge’s Activity Coordinator, Courtney, commented: “It was amazing to see the amount of donations that we received to our home. We put out a request on social media and posters around our home for donations and were delighted by the response from the local community, staff and relatives. It was such a fantastic feeling to be able to give back to our communities. Huge thanks from all of us at Maple Leaf Lodge to everyone who supported this wonderful project and helped us spread some joy this Christmas.”

Christmas Market
Saturday 9th December saw Maple Leaf Lodge hold our Christmas Fayre in the home in a hope to raise money for our residents fund.
Father Christmas made an appearance and got to meet many children, residents and adults. Our fabulous kitchen team made turkey and pulled pork baps for all to enjoy.
Throughout the day we enjoyed entertainment from the perFACT drama group who performed a wonderful Christmas tale with singing and dancing. We then enjoyed Christmas carol singing from the Seventh-day Adventist Church Grantham.
A big thank-you to our stall holders and family and friends for visiting and supporting our event.

Elf Day
Staff at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home in Grantham swapped their uniforms for costumes on National Elf Day in an effort to raise funds to help people living with dementia.
Launched by the Alzheimer’s Society and delivered direct from the North Pole, Elf Day was created to sprinkle some festive cheer on fundraising towards finding a cure for dementia. From stripy socks to head-to-toe elf outfits, anything goes – there’s snow better way to raise money to help beat dementia.
On the day, residents and staff at Maple Leaf Lodge were able to enjoy elf-themed games including elf bingo, elf singing and an elf quiz as the team at the home donned their elfish apparel.

Panto Fun
Barchester’s Maple Leaf Care Home, in Grantham, got in the Christmas spirit by visiting the Guildhall Arts Centre for the Christmas panto.
This year’s panto featured a panto favourite with a fun filled twist on the tale of Aladdin.
Residents and staff had a brilliant time joining in with all the panto fun, shouting ‘he’s behind you’ and singing along with all the hits.
General Manager, Kerry Angeloni said: “We absolutely love being able to take our residents out and about to visit the Guildhall and to take part in the panto fun. it makes us all so happy to experience Christmas events like this. It has been a fantastic evening and we’ve all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.”

Christmas Decorations
Some of our lovely ladies on Memory Lane have been busy decorating the Christmas tree.
Our residents had so much fun as they laughed together and reminsced about Christmas's past.
There was a sense of joy and satisfaction as after our residents said how beautiful their tree looks.
Residents Liz and Kate got all tangled in the tinsel and wanted to put it everywhere in the home.
Our home is looking very festive and we can’t wait for the festivities to begin! We hope you can join us.
