Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.

I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity  to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.

Life at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

Historic Hendon

Across our services we had a lovely time joining Rhiannon Watkinson from the RAF Museum London for an interactive talk exploring the exciting and innovative aviation history of Hendon.

Our residents were able to learn about the first flights from the fields at Hendon, the creation of the London Aerodrome and Battle of Britain pilots who flew from RAF Hendon.

The talk also included photographic and film material from the Museum’s archive. Residents across our homes had a fantastic time and we truly enjoyed the virtual experience.

Virtual event with Jon Sleigh

Residents across our services had a delightful time during a special virtual sensory storytelling event, led by Art Historian Jon Sleigh from the Historic Royal Palaces.

Jon took us on a journey to discover some of the more unusual and unexpected inhabitants of the palaces and the Tower of London, sharing fascinating stories about the pets at the palaces.

Whilst enjoying the virtual experience, our residents were treated to hot beverages, delicious biscuits, berries and cakes.  It was a truly lovely time for all.

Celebrating Chelsea flower show

This week is Chelsea flower shower! It is the place to see cutting edge garden designs, new plants and find ideas to take home. This event has been held since 1912.

We were joined by our wonderful friends from Harrowby Church of England Infant School to take a stroll around our beautiful garden. The children asked our favourite flowers and told us theirs. Residents favourite flowers are roses, tulips and orchids. Before they went back to school the children sang us a beautiful song. Residents Winnie and Pat then spent time creating some beautiful flower displays with a range of different flowers that are now displayed in the home.

Coronation celebrations

Maple Leaf celebrated the Kings Coronation in style. With music from the wonderful Steve Carmel.

Cakes were made by our wonderful laundry assistant Kayleigh and BBQ food prepared by the kitchen team.

Residents were up dancing, singing and laughing. The day was enjoyed by all. It was amazing to see so many of our amazing residents, families and staff join in the fun together!

A big Thankyou to everyone who came and supported our event!

Coronation virtual talk

Across our services Residents had a wonderful time participating in an interactive virtual talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at the University of Westminster, where we delved into the rich history of coronations.

During the talk, we explored fascinating topics such as the coronation chair, the crown, and other significant aspects related to King Charles' upcoming coronation. Our residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the memoirs of past coronations from 1937 and 1953, as well as learning about the coronation oath and what to expect from the ceremony, including the music, guests, and pageantry.

International Firefighters Day

Residents and staff at Maple Leaf Lodge care home in Grantham honoured their local firefighters by inviting them into the home for a breakfast. The kitchen team made a delicious breakfast for them to enjoy, along with tea, coffe and fresh juice. Our wonderful friends from Dancing Daffodil childminders also came to visit, where the firefighters showed them around the fire engine and all the equipment they had. Maple Leaf Lodge would like to thank the firefighters stationed there for their selfless service keeping the community safe.
