Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.

I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity  to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.

Maple Leaf Takes Flight

Maple Leaf Lodge hosted it’s very own afternoon of Arm Chair Travel as our residents took a virtual flight to Hawaii, residents enjoyed a day on the beach from the comfort of our lounge as they dipped their feet in the sand, built sandcastles and enjoyed a cocktail making masterclass with our homes life enrichment team.

Whether you’re a tequila fan, a whisky lover, a gin aficionado or you just like to mix it up and try something new, our Cocktail making master class had something for everyone all against the a relaxing beach backdrop. It was certainly an afternoon of fun-filled tastings for the staff and residents at the Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home in Grantham.

To mark the day, residents had so much fun taking part in a cocktail tasting masterclass led by our wonderful home host, Courtney, who assisted our residents in making and trying their hand at coming up with new cocktails themselves.

PCSO Meet and Greet

Residents and members of the wider community at the Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home in Grantham came together as we warmly welcomed PCSO Jack Mawer into our home.

CSO Jack spoke to our residents at great length about his time in the police force, the daily routines she faces and news from the wider community before taking questions from his audience.

Residents and members of the community were fascinated as PCSO Jack gave them a run through of his force equipment and also treated the audience to a look inside the police car, complete with siren demonstration. Much to everyones delight.

Residents dream comes true

Resident,Jaqueline, at Maple Leaf Lodge  had always wanted to return to a golfing pitch after being a ladies captain and playing the sport 3 times a week for 35 years, so activity coordinator, Courtney, at the home made her wish a reality proving the old adage, it’s never too late.

Jaqueline has lived at  Maple Leaf Lodge since 2022 and is beloved by staff and residents alike. We were delighted to be a part of making her dream come true, as we knew how much it meant to her and seeing the smile on her face when we arrived was wonderful. A big thankyou to Belton Golf Club for helping us and allowing us to come.

Strawberry Picking

We have had a lovely morning strawberry picking at Syston Farm with our wonderful residents. Carer Darren was in competition to pick the biggest strawberry. It was lovely to take a trip over as Sylvia has requested doing this for a while now.

Resident Sylvia said “I really enjoyed herself and it was lovely to be back at the place I took my grandchildren.” Resident Margaret taste tested the strawberries as we went round to make sure they were okay for us to enjoy.

While we were enjoying our ice cream we saw our wonderful friends from Dancing Daffodils who were also out strawberry picking! It was a wonderful morning loved by all.

Pony Visit

What an incredible afternoon visiting the amazing Kesteven Rideability. In our latest residents meeting, residents asked to organise a trip out to see the horses again.

Residents have been looking forward to seeing the wonderful horses again as it made them smile from ear to ear. Residents enjoyed delicious homemade cake and a refreshing drink while Fudge the horse ate his grass. Resident Peter said “Its lovely to be back seeing the wonderful animals”

Our hosts were wonderful and welcomed us with open arms, the work they do is truly amazing and we can’t wait to visit again soon!

Dylan the Therapy Dog

We met the wonderful Dylan who was introduced to our lovely residents. Dylan was fed treats and was given lots and lots of fuss.

Residents were delighted to see him when he walked through the door. Dylan made our residents smile from ear to ear and we can’t wait to see him again soon. Research has shown that animal assisted therapy can positively impact the quality of life of the elderly.
