Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Courtney Doncaster
My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.
I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.
We are always open to new ideas so please join us for a chat at any time.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

High Tea Event
Maple Leaf hosted a delightful High Tea event featuring cream tea and delicious snacks prepared by the home's kitchen team. The event was a resounding success, with residents, staff, and members of the local community coming together to enjoy an afternoon of decadence.
The event was held in the home's café area which was decorated with beautiful floral arrangements and elegant table settings. The guests were treated to a variety of scrumptious snacks, including cream scones with raspberry jam and a variety of cakes.
The cream tea was a particular highlight, with guests complimenting the quality of the scones and cream.

Barchester’s Big Quiz of the year!
All over the country our care homes and hospitals linked up for Barchester’s Big Quiz of the year!
Residents tested their knowledge with a variety of questions, from historical humdingers and musical musings to pictorial puzzlers and connective conundrums.
Everyone who participated had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Animal Therapy
Maple Leaf took a walk on the wild side as we welcomed Michelle's Animal Therapy & Petting Party.
Michelle brought in a dazzling array of lovely and exotic animals for our residents to enjoy.
Our residents enjoyed getting to know and bond with the rabbits, dogs, a chicken and a bearded dragon and many more.
We look forward to welcoming Michelle back in the near future.

Meet The Reindeers
Across our homes we got into the Christmas spirit of things by joining a festive live virtual experience, led by Des and Kelly from Performing Pets.
Our residents were thrilled to meet the charming furry friends and get up close and personal with the reindeers. We certainly learnt some interesting facts about the animals and had a fantastic time.

Mince Pie and Mulled Wine Afternoon
The delicious smell of festive treats filled the air as our home hosted its Mulled Wine and Mince Pie afternoon as we welcomed the local community, friends and family to join our residents in our cafe area.
A special thank you goes to Andy our talented Head Chef. Who specially hand baked and crafted a selection of delicious home made mince pies.
Which alongside the mulled wine went down a treat.
Our residents and guests finished the afternoon event with a heart warming sing a long to a selection of our residents favourite Christmas Carols.

Best Dressed Christmas Tree competition
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Maple Leaf and Newton House care home, in Grantham held a competition within the local community to award the “Best Dressed Christmas Tree”, after receiving a huge selection of incredibly dressed tree’s there could be only one winner!
Maple Leaf and Newton House care home’s residents enjoyed going through the selection of beautifully photographed trees and after much talk and deliberation over Hot Chocolate and Mince Pies, our residents chose the highly original and unique effort sent in by the children at the Springwell Academy Alternative School in Grantham.
The children and staff members from Springwell were presented with a bumper bag of Christmas treats.
General Manager’s, Kerry Angeloni and Sonia Fairhurst both agreed: “Christmas is such a magical time and our residents loved looking at all of the wonderful photos sent in from the community. It was lovely and it brought back lots of fond memories for them decorating the Christmas tree with their own family”
