Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Courtney Doncaster
My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.
I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.
We are always open to new ideas so please join us for a chat at any time.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

National Bird Box Week
Nest box week is celebrated between 14th - 21st February. This marks the beginning of the breeding season for birds. It is an annual observation that motivates people to make nest boxes.
The wonderful students at Grantham College & University Centre and their carpentry tutor Andrew, kindly made some bird boxes to put out in our garden for residents to enjoy. We would like to thank the students for making these boxes for us.
The students carefully designed and made the boxes and delivered them to the residents. Resident Doreen said how lovely they were and she can’t wait to see them fill up with birds.

Resident Wish Comes True!
Resident, Ron had expressed that the one thing he wishes he could do again is watch a football match and score a goal, so staff at the home made his wish a reality proving the old adage, it’s never too late.
Ron always showed an interest in the sport and shared stories of when he use to play right back for Barkston FC. Anna and the amazing team at Grantham Town FC were so generous in helping making Ron’s wish come true. They accompanied to his needs, allowing him to score a goal and meeting players from the Gingerbread team. As a home we cant thank the club enough for accommodating us.
Ron said “I have really enjoyed my day, thank you!” He shared stories about his time playing football and how he use to play with a leather ball. He said the atmosphere of the crowd never changes. Although we didn’t win Ron said he has really enjoyed his day!

Therapy Dog Visit
Our furry friend Dylan returned to see our residents today for lots of fuss and treats. Dylan was giving out high fives to residents and of course sniffing out the biscuit crumbs.
Resident Doreen said after his visit “Seeing him has really made my day, he was lovely!” and resident Ivy said “Can we get one and keep him as our pet.”
Pet therapy promotes sensory stimulation, it improves dexterity and coordination and provides a non-verbal form of communication, producing an enjoyable outcome.

Valentines Day
Our Valentines day was filled with love as we enjoyed a sing a long from the fabulous Sue Tinkler. We sang classic love songs, residents were up singing and dancing. Fun was had by all.
Resident Ron then made his yearly rounds handing out roses to all the staff and residents making their day and leaving them smiling from ear to ear. Resident Noreen said “What a lovely thought, it has made my day!”

Master Florist tutorial
Across our homes we had a fantastic time joining, Kathryn Delve, Master Florist, for a Valentine’s-inspired live virtual flower arranging demonstration. Kathryn shared brilliant and creative ways to decorate our tables with beautiful flowers that are sure to make your heart swoon!
Those participating in this virtual event put their skills to the test and followed along with some amazing creations of their own. Residents truly enjoyed the experience.

National Storytelling Week
Maple Leaf Lodge recently hosted a heartwarming intergenerational event as part of National Storytelling Week.
The care home welcomed a group of enthusiastic children from Springwell Academy, embracing intergenerational connections and celebrating the joy of storytelling.
The children and residents came together on a delightful craft project, creating personalised bookmarks adorned with colourful designs, quotes, and uplifting messages.
The interaction between the children and the residents was heartwarming. Smiles exchanged, hands held, and stories shared by young and old.
