Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Courtney Doncaster
My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.
I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.
We are always open to new ideas so please join us for a chat at any time.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

St. Andrews Day
St Andrews Day is typically celebrated on 30th November annually. The day emerges as a momentous celebration of national pride and heritage. The day honours Scotland's patron saint, Saint Andrew, while also embracing the rich tapestry of Scottish culture and tradition.
Today we celebrated the event a day early. In the morning we enjoyed a journey above the iconic city of Edinburgh with VR Cares Sky Tour. Residents enjoyed seeing how many iconic locations they could spot.
In the afternoon we welcomed Grantham U3A group for some wonderful Scottish dancing. Before each performance residents were told the name of the dance and a story behind its name. During our tea break we all enjoyed Scottish snacks including, shortbread, Tunnocks tea cakes and caramel chocolate wafers. Resident Janet, who is from Scotland, said “watching the dancing reminds of being a little girl and dancing.” The day has been enjoyed by all.

International Men's Day
Residents at the Maple Leaf Lodge in Grantham came together on Monday 20th November to mark International Men’s Day which aims to appreciate and celebrate men and the contribution they make to society. International Men’s Day seeks to encourage men to lead by example and become positive male role models for other men and boys. One of the objectives of celebrating International Men’s Day is to acknowledge the many difficult issues that men face - the theme for 2023 is ‘Zero Male Suicide’.
Prior to the day, residents at the Maple Leaf Lodge were asked to nominate all the outstanding men they knew who were working in the home, volunteering or making another valuable contribution to society. Residents were asked to think about the positive value those men bring to the world, their families and communities, and to acknowledge and celebrate that effort.
The following evening the gentleman of Maple Leaf came together for a ‘Pizza and Pint’ evening as the gents enjoyed a selection of take away pizza and a choice of ales.
Our men were then entertained with a movie matinee showing of 007 classic ‘Dr No.’ starring the legendary Sean Connery.

Kings Birthday Celebrations
Never known to miss a chance for a celebration, The Maple Leaf Lodge and Newton House Care Home in Grantham marked the King’s birthday on November 14th with a right royal musical extravaganza!
Inspired by the Kings Coronation Concert last summer, the Residents took part in an afternoon of royally approved song and dance before enjoying some very British tea and cake.
We were delighted to welcome our special guests the Grantham U3A Guitar Club led by Graham Wellham. Our homes were also delighted to welcome back, home favourite singer KJ and the Cat!

Autumn Fair
Our residents and colleagues at Barchester’s Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home, in Grantham celebrated Autumn and Halloween with an Autumn Fair by hosting a day of community themed fun, activity and song.
Residents at Maple Leaf Lodge enjoyed attending the fair with their friends, family and members of the local community. The fair featured a mulled cider stall, tombola, cake bake sale and musical entertainment courtesy of Sue Tinkler.

Halloween Creativity
Residents on our Kensington community have been busy meeting their creative needs by flower arranging inside a pumpkin to display around the home.
Not only did our fabulous ladies have fun but flowers also have been shown to have a positive impact on mental and physical well-being, and the act of creating something can be therapeutic and uplifting.
Our ladies discussed their favourite flowers and all agreed that they’re all beautiful but roses were everyone’s favourite.

Baking club
Residents gathered together today to make some delicious chocolate brownies and cinnamon cookies in our weekly baking club.
Residents weighed out all the ingredients and mixed them up. Resident Sylvia told us how baking use to be one of her favourite things to do and she used to love when the kitchen filled with a delicious smell. While waiting we sang wartime classics and enjoyed a cup of tea. Afterwards we enjoyed the brownie with some cream.
Our baking club brings so much joy to our residents and sparks old memories from when they use to bake.
