Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Courtney Doncaster
My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.
I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.
We are always open to new ideas so please join us for a chat at any time.

Life at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home
Garden Fun
We took full advantage of the sun shining this afternoon and took our activities outside!
We love being outside in our beautiful garden as it makes everyone smile and there is so much to see. As resident Graham was going around he told us the names of all the different flowers and told us his favourite is a rose. Resident Ivy said all we need now is a gin and tonic, so to her request we went and got one after seeing how tall the sunflower had grown. The gents then had a competitive game of Molkky in which resident Peter won. The afternoon was enjoyed by all
Maple Leaf Visits the Zoo
Residents from Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home in Grantham were filled with joy during their visit to Lincolnshire Wildlife Park. Residents were able to see animals from all round the world in person, and had a chance to enjoy a live bird show, where they were able to see the birds up close and watch them fly over their heads!
For one particular resident the visit to the zoo saw her wish come true. Resident Sheila loves animals and shared with the Maple Leaf team that a visit to the zoo “would be a dream come true!”
Sheila was delighted when her dream wish became a reality!
Residents were able to spend the day at the zoo, and enjoyed a packed lunch and snacks provided by the homes hospitality team, and singing songs on the way home on the home’s minibus.
Tattoo Parlour
Residents always ask our colleagues about their own tattoos and give them compliments. Whist some residents have wished they could turn back the clock and get one. This afternoon residents were given a choice of different designs and everyone had a good time picking out their own tattoos. Staff members also picked out their own designs.
Two of our residents enjoyed a glass of gin and tonic whilst receiving their tattoos. Resident Anne got the most tattoos and said “you might as well have fun while you can, it made a difference to usual activities” Everyone had so much fun and many laughs and smiles were shared.
Visit From The Mayor
Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together at Maple Leaf Lodge to enjoy an open day that was held at the home on Saturday 19th August.
The Mayor of Grantham, Mark Whittington, visited the home in the morning, greeting residents, staff and members of the public. Resident Anne was delighted to meet him as she use to be a councillor. Resident Barbara, who turns 101 soon also met him and was delighted, she told him she has seen many Mayors throughout her years and was pleased to meet him. The Mayor then congratulated Head Housekeeper Carol in her recent achievement of Hospitality Champion for the North Division
Members of the community were welcomed into the home in the afternoon to enjoy an afternoon tea prepared by our wonderful catering team, who worked hard at making sure that a great time was had by all.
Planning For Care Seminar
Maple Leaf Lodge care home, in Grantham invited members of the local community to a seminar discussing the worries of paying for care.
Our guests were able to meet impartial financial consultant Natalie Biggins from Welland Valley Legal who discussed how to plan for care. Topics covered included what it means to have a Power of Attorney, and how to manage care fees.
Natalie was able to address and reassure our guests that there is support for those who are worried about the costs of planning for care in the future.
International Cat Day
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home in Grantham got up close and personal with some furry friends when they celebrated International Cat Day on August 8th.
