Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home in Grantham got up close and personal with some furry friends when they celebrated International Cat Day on August 8th.

Residents had a brilliant time as we welcomed Grantham ROCK Cat Rescue into our home for a fundraising tea party, featuring a tombola, delicious cakes, snacks and refreshments prepared for by our catering team.

The community event raised £600 for the much cherished and independent local cat rescue.

Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together at Maple Leaf Lodge to enjoy a 60’s themed Summer Fete that was held in the home’s grounds on Saturday 29th July.

Maple Leaf Lodge hosted a variety of activities throughout the day including a BBQ, Bouncy Castle, tombola stall, live entertainment and games which were enjoyed by everyone who came to the event.

Residents across our services had a fantastic time joining Mandy Morrow for a virtual walking tour to learn about the ‘Herstory’ of Mayfair. The Mayfair of Nightingales may be long gone but it still holds a 20th century charm. Birthplace to the late Queen Elizabeth II, home to one of WWII's most decorated female war heroes and a tale of a wealthy Aristocrat and one of France's favourite designers.

We were delighted to take a walk down memory lane and discover stories from one of London's most iconic areas.  The experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Carol Doncaster at Maple Leaf Lodge in Grantham has been crowned Hospitality Champion for the North Division in the Barchester Care Awards 2023 and is through to the national round of judging.

The Barchester Care Awards celebrate the staff who go the extra mile for the benefit of the 13,000 residents living in Barchester’s 252 care homes and private hospitals across the country. Categories range from ‘Registered Nurse of the Year’ and ‘Carer of the Year’ to ‘Dementia Care Champion’ and ‘Activities Coordinator of the Year’.

Perfectly timed in the middle of a warm summer’s day, staff and residents at Barchester’s Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home in Stamford had a fantastic time celebrating National Ice Cream Day on July 17, a brilliant excuse to sample lots of cooling treats.

Our residents and colleagues celebrated this special day by taking trip to Belton Garden Centre’s Ice Cream Parlour for a delicious Ice Cream treat before returning to the home for a special live virtual event with Wall’s Ice Cream our residents will dived into the history of the Wall’s brand from launch in 1922 through major innovations such as the launch of Mr Whippy, Cornetto, Viennetta, Twister, Carte d’Or and more.

To everyone’s delight, we will enjoy a sing-along to Cornetto classic ads and a tasting session of Walls’ current products

Maple Leaf Lodge hosted it’s very own afternoon of Arm Chair Travel as our residents took a virtual flight to Hawaii, residents enjoyed a day on the beach from the comfort of our lounge as they dipped their feet in the sand, built sandcastles and enjoyed a cocktail making masterclass with our homes life enrichment team.

Whether you’re a tequila fan, a whisky lover, a gin aficionado or you just like to mix it up and try something new, our Cocktail making master class had something for everyone all against the a relaxing beach backdrop. It was certainly an afternoon of fun-filled tastings for the staff and residents at the Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home in Grantham.

To mark the day, residents had so much fun taking part in a cocktail tasting masterclass led by our wonderful home host, Courtney, who assisted our residents in making and trying their hand at coming up with new cocktails themselves.
