Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Courtney Doncaster
My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.
I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.
We are always open to new ideas so please join us for a chat at any time.

Life at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home
Namaste Experience
Our residents shared a wonderful time together in our Namaste room, enjoying a sensory experience that was both calming and invigorating. The sensory lights and sounds helped to create a soothing environment that stimulated their senses and brought them joy and calm
We were delighted to see our residents so happy and comfortable within our sensory environment.
International flower day
Our home celebrated international flower day on January 19th. Some of our ladies have been meeting their creative needs with flower arranging to display around the home. National Flower Day celebrates the colourful blooms and elevating scent of nature's most vibrant plants.
We used a selection of beautiful flowers and residents were left in complete control to design wonderful displays. Residents discussed their favourite flowers and resident Sylvia told us she loves roses. Everyone loves flowers and they look beautiful displayed in our home.
Springwell School
Our fabulous friends from Springwell Learning Community Lincolnshire came to visit our wonderful residents for a morning of arts and crafts.
Today the children and residents made turtles out of paper and tissue paper. Residents helped cut the shapes out and rip the tissue paper while the children made beautiful works of art. Resident Graham said how he really enjoyed himself and was shocked that he was doing arts and crafts.
It’s lovely to see the children and residents form bonds and we look forward to seeing them every Tuesday for the rest of the month of January.
Burns Night
Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home in Grantham, prepared a traditional Burns Night Supper to the tune of bagpipes and Scottish folk music and the fun continued well into the evening
Staff and residents at the home were involved in a number of activities including giving the time-honoured address to the ‘Great chieftain O’ the pudding race’ – the haggis and Scottish folk music.
Medical Detection Dogs
Across our services residents had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Emilia from Medical Detection Dogs.
Emilia took us on a journey to discover how the organisation began training dogs to support people with complex health conditions, saving their lives on a daily basis.
Using their amazing sense of smell, these dogs can identify odour changes emitted prior an episode and alert the person to take preventative action.
We were introduced to the wonderful dogs and the science behind the sniff. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our canine-loving residents.
High Tea Event
Maple Leaf hosted a delightful High Tea event featuring cream tea and delicious snacks prepared by the home's kitchen team. The event was a resounding success, with residents, staff, and members of the local community coming together to enjoy an afternoon of decadence.
The event was held in the home's café area which was decorated with beautiful floral arrangements and elegant table settings. The guests were treated to a variety of scrumptious snacks, including cream scones with raspberry jam and a variety of cakes.
The cream tea was a particular highlight, with guests complimenting the quality of the scones and cream.
