Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Baking club

Residents gathered together today to make some delicious chocolate brownies and cinnamon cookies in our weekly baking club.

Residents weighed out all the ingredients and mixed them up. Resident Sylvia told us how baking use to be one of her favourite things to do and she used to love when the kitchen filled with a delicious smell. While waiting we sang wartime classics and enjoyed a cup of tea. Afterwards we enjoyed the brownie with some cream.

Our baking club brings so much joy to our residents and sparks old memories from when they use to bake.

Intergenerational Halloween party

Residents got themselves dressed up in Halloween accessories as we waited for our wonderful friends from Dancing Daffodils to join us this morning in their amazing costumes for a spooky Halloween party with arts and crafts.

Children and the residents have been busy painting pumpkins, making Halloween sand bottles and painting wooden decorations. We have all had so much fun and it has been lovely to see different generations enjoy crafts together. Resident Peggy said “I have had a lovely morning and really enjoyed myself”

Resident Sylvia made goodie bags for the children full of sweet treats and Halloween toys, which resident Liz handed out.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Maple Leaf Lodge care home in Grantham marked Breast Cancer Awareness Month which is taking place throughout October.

Sadly, we all know someone affected by breast cancer - over 55,000 people are diagnosed with the disease each year.  October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, a chance for people to Wear It Pink, get involved in raising funds and find out more about how to check themselves and what to do if they find any symptoms of breast cancer.

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, staff and residents at the Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home spent time coming together to raise funds by wearing it pink, holding a pink-themed bake sale, pink raffle, creating, decorating the home pink and holding a tea party. Everyone enjoyed getting involved and showing their support.

Fancy Dress Friday

Maple Leaf Lodge decided to spread joy and laughter around our home as we celebrated ‘Fancy Dress Friday’

Residents, their relatives and staff all got involved with the spirit of this unique themed day and dressed up as a pizza, a lobster, Snow White, a clown and so much more. It’s been a full day of laughing and smiling. The gents got the most laughs with their wig wearing antics.

Senior General Manager at the Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home, said: “This has been a huge amount of fun and the home has been filled with laughter. So much so that we can’t wait to make Fancy Dress Friday a regular event.”

A resident at the home, Jean said: “It’s been so funny watching everyone dress ridiculously” we have definitely enjoyed the day and can’t wait for the next dress up day.

Maple Leaves

Our residents on Memory Lane have been busy creating some beautiful artwork today using leaves and chalk.

Our residents enjoyed the autumn air and had stroll around our gardens to pick different sized leaves from the trees for us to use in our art class. We headed back in the home and began.

Using the chalk we created vibrant outlines of the different leaves we had.

Our residents had so much fun with this and it developed creativity and stimulated imagination. Resident Pat said how beautiful everyone’s work was.

Day Out in the Park

Some of our lovely ladies from Memory Lane have enjoyed an afternoon stroll around one of our favourite places, Wyndham Park. Residents have enjoyed looking at the different flowers and meeting some wonderful people.

Before returning back to the home for a cup of tea we made a stop to Harold’s Traditional sweet shop to get some sweets. Residents got a mixture of fudge and hard boiled sweets.

We have had a lovely afternoon which has been enjoyed by all.
