Activities at Melbourn Springs Care Home
Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat will always be welcomed.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Melbourn Springs Care Home
Sweet treats for our friends at Community Support for Dementia
Our Chefs at Melbourn Springs have been busy spreading the love to our community friends by supplying cup cakes to ‘Community Support for Dementia’, an initiative formed in 2019 by Stephanie Trayhurn and Davina Biswell to offer Awareness, Support and Training to families and their loved ones ‘living with dementia’ in Melbourn and the surrounding villages.
Pre lockdown, Community Support for Dementia were running a monthly Memory Café at the Melbourn Hub, which was replaced by weekly deliveries of activity packs and cakes during the pandemic and continues to this day! We are exploring the opportunities of working together to provide an additional Memory Café in the village each month once restrictions allow and more details will follow soon. Our home environments and activities at Melbourn Springs are tailor made to support memory retention and a Dementia lifestyle including our state of the art Magic Table in our beautiful Activity Café.
General Manager, Karen Allen adds, “Stephanie, Davina and the support group do a tremendous job and it is a real pleasure to be able to support them and their fantastic community group. Living with dementia can be quite lonely and frightening, and the more support we can provide to each other, the better – our door is always open here at Melbourn Springs if we can support or advise in any way.”
Happy Easter
We have had a truly blessed Easter here at Melbourn Springs. Our residents attended a special Church service via Zoom and also the Easter Bunny (Our Activities Coordinator Sophie) was on hand to deliver handmade cards from our community friends and yummy Easter Eggs to our residents too! Colston even has his own Easter Tree - complete with beautiful painted Eggs.
The delicious chocolate treats prepared by our amazing hospitality team have been in full flow all day - not to mention a special fun prize Bingo session which everyone enjoyed. And even though Iris won she very kindly gave Christopher her prize Easter Egg to add to his collection.
Happy Easter to each and every one of you from all of our residents and team here at Melbourn Springs!
Easter Bonnet Competition
Bring on our Easter Bonnet competition - well Easter Hats here at Melbourn Springs.
There certainly was lots of concentration, gluing, eggs and feathers flying about as the creations took shape.
“Although we didn’t know what to expect we have had a super time and have been laughing all afternoon!” said Iris.
And what’s more the winner is going to receive their very own personalised Egg from Hill St. uk. Who will the lucky winner be?!?
Employee of the Month for March - Leonie
Our Care Assistant Leonie is our employee for the month of March at Melbourn Springs!
Leonie is; "Kind, caring, works exceptionally hard, gets things done and is an absolute pleasure to work alongside!"
Well done Leonie - from all of the team at the home!
Gardening in the Sun and Bug Hotels
Our ‘Bug Hotels’ are certainly taking shape at Melbourn Springs and our residents have very much enjoyed preparing them! Whilst others are busy preparing our beautiful home gardens ready for planting Summer perennials. The weather has been absolutely super the last few days and it certainly is great to be able to get outside and enjoy the glorious sunshine together.
A new musical addition arrives - thank you Katrina!
A big, big thank you to Katrina Wallace for donating a beautiful Piano to Melbourn Springs on behalf of her mother Pamela Brazier.
Katrina said: “Mum was absolutely fantastic, passed all of her exams and the next step was teaching. She still loves listening to the Proms even now but as she has grown older and her health needs changed she has had to give up playing. We wanted to ensure the piano would still bring enjoyment and are delighted that it now has a new home at Melbourn Springs.”
The Piano had to be stored for 72 hours and thoroughly sanitized before use and is already proving to be extremely popular. And we are all counting down the days when we can hold a music recital with afternoon tea for our community friends who have supported us so brilliantly through the past year.
