Activities at Middletown Grange Care Home
We aim to provide a variety of activities that will both mentally and physically stimulate the people we support. Residents have a range of different needs and interests, and it is crucial that these are reflected in the activities available, so that each individual is able to participate to the best of their ability. We organise both group and individual social events that everyone is welcome to take part in; there is a weekly outing to local places of interest, including the garden centre and the local farms, parks and museums. In addition, we enjoy regular visits from entertainers and even exotic animals. We also host events such as 'Beach Day' that relatives and friends are encouraged to participate in. Getting involved in charities is a big part of our ethos, so events such as 'PJs for Pudsey' and pirate-themed days are regularly hosted to raise money for different foundations, including the Alzheimer’s Society.

Life at Middletown Grange Care Home
Healthy and Nutritious Smoothies
'Thirsty Thursday' saw our resident's joint together to make fresh fruit smoothies!
Orders were being taken by our 'mixologists'; Pat and Marion, both of who took the role very seriously, ensuring the correct measures of fruit to milk and yogurt. Thank you ladies, your fellow residents absolutely loved their delicious beverages.
Flower Arranging and High-Tea
Throughout Nutrition and Hydration Week our residents have been enjoying some wellbeing activities including; on Wednesday their flower arranging session included learning about edible flowers for cooking, and juices.
In the afternoon, Chef treated everyone to a selection of nutritious filled sandwiches and naughty fresh cream scones for 'high-tea' whilst they watched the racing from Royal Ascot!
Nutrition and Hydration Week - Breakfast Menu
Middletown Grange started celebrating Nutrition and Hydration Week (14th – 20th June) today, with a selection of tasty and nutritious breakfast dishes. Our residents had the choice of granola and or yogurt with fresh berries, smoked salmon and soft cheese bagels, eggs benedict and smoke salmon with scrambled eggs and capers!
Nutrition and Hydration Week aims to highlight, promote and celebrate improvements in the provision of nutrition and hydration locally, nationally and globally. At Barchester, each resident’s specific dietary requirements, likes and dislikes are individually catered for at all our homes. Meals are prepared to each resident’s tastes and all staff understand the importance of good nutrition and hydration for all our residents and patients’ wellbeing.
Home manager; Clem said “Our chefs are trained to prepare dishes to our residents’ specific dietary requirements, as well as all their likes and dislikes. Today’s breakfast menu saw the ‘Full English’ take a back seat. Our residents seemed to love the choices, and I’ve no doubt they’ll be appearing on the menu on a regular basis.”
Oomph! Paper Boats
Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream. Merrily, merrily, merrily life is but a dream!
Our residents loved making their own little paper boats during this week’s Oomph Wellness session. Following each instruction to the letter, and folding with precision, they we're amazed just how well their small nautical creations floated.
Sugar Free Cupcake Making
We all enjoy the odd sweet treat but not everyone can eat sugar. In preparation for Diabetes week 14-20 June 2021 the residents of Middletown Grange decided to make their friends some delicious ‘Diabetic safe cupcakes’.
The cookery group had great fun working out the ratio of sugar substitute (sweetener) tasting tiny bits of mixture to ensure the cakes were just the right! Whilst their bakes were cooling, and before piping the icing, our ladies took time to exercise their minds with a few word searches and crosswords – they really are an amazing little team.
Carers' Appreciation Wall
Residents at Middletown Grange care home have been preparing to celebrate National Carers’ Week, which takes place from June 7-13. They want to thank all the wonderful staff at the home, whose hard work and dedication make a real difference to the lives of those living in their care.
Starting with an ‘Appreciation Wall’ full of hand-crafted tea pots and messages of thanks which will form the backdrop to a special afternoon tea later in the week, all designed by our residents full of delicious treats for our wonderful carers to take a break and enjoy!
The theme for Carers Week this year is ‘Making caring visible and valued’ - to shine a light on all those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to care for vulnerable people in our communities. We can’t wait to spoil our amazing care team and show them just how much we appreciated everything they do.
