Activities at Milford House Care Home
The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.
Gale Louw
Gale joined the Milford team in 2019, initially as a carer but has gradually transferred over to the Activities Team where she is now the full time Coordinator. Gale has a passion to create a comprehensive and inclusive programme of vibrant events for residents, family
members and friends to enjoy and, along with the rest of team, ensure that each resident is able to participate in meaningful activities tailored to their likes and dislikes.
Originally from South Africa, when not at work Gale loves nothing more than exploring the UK, catching up with family and friends, being creative across a variety of disciplines and keeping her eyes out for great activities and events she can bring back to the home for
residents to enjoy.

Life at Milford House Care Home
Honouring and Remembering our Late Queen
Residents and staff at Milford House joined together and supported one another paying their respects to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the day of her funeral, 19 September 2022. Residents, families and team members watched the televised service of the State Funeral that took place in Westminster Abbey, followed by the Committal Service in St George’s Chapel, Windsor on the large screens we had set up in our lounges or in their own rooms if they preferred.
After the morning ceremony the home held a wake for Her Majesty where there were many discussions about our much loved and respected Queen, her early life and numerous milestones that we as a nation all celebrated. Personal memories and reminiscences about her extraordinary reign and contribution to our country and beyond were also shared. Many spent the afternoon in our lounges together in reflective mood looking at books, photos and materials that highlighted her life in all its aspects and contributing to our board of photos with forget-me-nots which they had made.
Milford House Hosts Salisbury Art Trail
Residents had an official opening as the home joined the Salisbury Art Trail as a venue from 3rd – 19th September. Not only are the residents showcasing their own Jubilee art works but are also hosting 6 local visiting artists who are exhibiting in our communal areas and gardens. So far everyone has been delighted by the response and we have all really enjoyed showing the visitors our lovely home and the fabulous art on display.
Milford Residents Enjoy Music and Movement with Malcolm
Here at Milford we have loved having Malcolm back with us regularly for an hour of music, movement and fun with the odd fact and quiz thrown in as well! Malcolm has been coming to the home for nearly 15 years and is a firm favourite with everyone and his afternoon sessions are always packed. As one of the residents put it ‘Malcolm really knows how to get our feet tapping.'
Making Memories
A group of residents at Milford House Care Home in Salisbury enjoyed another wonderful 'Making Memories' lunch recently and the theme this time was 'Antique' which was reflected in the gorgeous green and gold table decorations. There were special name tags - especially for those who are visually impaired and lovely gifts to take away. The residents, the oldest of whom was 108, chatted away while the home’s talented chefs delivered delicious dishes. A big thank you to the team who work hard to organise and host these special experiences for the residents to enjoy the memories created are truly special.
Milford Carer Celebrates Barchester Award with Residents
Huge, huge congratulations to Gale who has been announced as a winner of The Carer of the Year award for the Barchester South Division. Gale will now go forward to the National Finals with the winner being announced on 12th October at the Care Awards Ceremony. This is a great accolade, as every year Barchester receives thousands of nominations across a range of categories and everyone at Milford is immensely proud that Gale has been selected as a Divisional winner and we will all be cheering her on and wish her the best of luck as she goes to the Awards event.
Summer Party Fun
After a dull start to the day the sun came out along with residents, family and friends for our Summer Garden Party. The courtyard garden was abuzz with chat, bubbles, music and singing and looked very colourful. Our chef team created a lovely tea with a selection of fabulous cream cakes all enjoyed in the warm sunshine. Thank you to everyone for making it such a fun afternoon.
