Activities at Milford House Care Home
The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.
Gale Louw
Gale joined the Milford team in 2019, initially as a carer but has gradually transferred over to the Activities Team where she is now the full time Coordinator. Gale has a passion to create a comprehensive and inclusive programme of vibrant events for residents, family
members and friends to enjoy and, along with the rest of team, ensure that each resident is able to participate in meaningful activities tailored to their likes and dislikes.
Originally from South Africa, when not at work Gale loves nothing more than exploring the UK, catching up with family and friends, being creative across a variety of disciplines and keeping her eyes out for great activities and events she can bring back to the home for
residents to enjoy.

Life at Milford House Care Home
Salisbury Cathedral Flower Festival
A group of residents had a fabulous visit to Salisbury Cathedral to see the amazing flowers. It was a truly inspiring visit with so much to look at and admire. One of the highlights was a representation of The Queen's Coronation cloak made out of grasses. Everyone who saw it did a 'double take' as it was impossible to tell that it wasn't the real thing!
National Gardening Week
To celebrate National Gardening Week residents have been busy planting mixed flower seeds that will be grown on in our conservatory until they are ready to be planted out. They have also planted some herbs but this time with the added bonus that not only will they look nice but we can eat them as well! With the days now much warmer and our gardens coming into full bloom many of our residents have also been out and about working on the pots and displays on their own balconies and terraces, and we can say with hand on heart that everything in the garden is blooming lovely!
It's Blossom Time
Residents at Milford are enjoying our gardens and have been busy admiring the apple blossom which is looking perfect at the moment. We have a number of old trees that usually produce an abundance of cooking apples each year so we have something to look forward to at the start and end of the year! The blossom heralds the start of summer and we are all looking forward to celebrating National Garden Week, which runs from 2nd-8th May, with a range of garden related activities.
Easter
A gorgeous Easter weekend was enjoyed by all, starting off with a visit from the Carousel Theatre Company on Good Friday who treated us to songs from well known musicals. Easter Sunday saw residents enjoying a traditional Easter lunch and of course the Easter bunny was much in evidence around the home delivering Easter eggs and cards to everyone! Easter Monday saw many residents in our inner courtyard relaxing in the sunshine while listening to Dave Dawson who provided an hour of musical entertainment – sunshine and songs what could be better?!
Art Exhibition
Our residents have been working hard creating a beautiful Jubilee themed piece of artwork to be displayed at the exhibition which will be showing at Waterstones Salisbury from 5th June.
Popping the Question
Everyone at Milford has been delighted to share in the happiness of Mick and Chris after Mick popped the question over a special Valentine’s Day lunch. With family and friends now all in the know everyone can share in their happy news and look forward with them to their big day which is likely to be in July.
Mick’s plans were a well-kept secret and, with the help of the Activities Team, the ring was bought and the lunch planned to which an unsuspecting Chris was invited – and the rest is history! We don’t think that we have had an engagement and forthcoming wedding at Milford before so we are going to enjoy every moment of this happy time.
