Activities at Milford House Care Home

The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.

Gale Louw

Activity Coordinator

Gale joined the Milford team in 2019, initially as a carer but has gradually transferred over to the Activities Team where she is now the full time Coordinator. Gale has a passion to create a comprehensive and inclusive programme of vibrant events for residents, family
members and friends to enjoy and, along with the rest of team, ensure that each resident is able to participate in meaningful activities tailored to their likes and dislikes.

Originally from South Africa, when not at work Gale loves nothing more than exploring the UK, catching up with family and friends, being creative across a variety of disciplines and keeping her eyes out for great activities and events she can bring back to the home for

Milford House Jubilee Committee

It may only be March, but residents at Milford House are already eagerly anticipating the celebration of HM The Queen's Platinum Jubilee! Here at Milford, we will be planning on having a number of events, especially over the June bank holiday weekend, that celebrate Her Majesty's peerless contribution to the life of our country.

We have created a 'Milford House Jubilee Committee' made up of residents and staff members who will all bring their individual experiences and skills to bear on creating a programme of events that will be engaging for everyone. The Jubilee Committee have a number of ideas that are actively being worked on, and everyone is really excited about the opportunities that we can share with the wider Salisbury community to celebrate this historic event.

Look out for a Milford House art exhibition with a jubilee theme, a street party and more; all of which we are looking forward to sharing with family, friends and our community and even beyond through the wonders of technology!

Celebrating 105 Amazing Years

Friends and staff were thrilled to be able to share the 105th birthday celebrations with one of our residents. A special lunch was laid on in our private dining area with friends bringing a fabulous cake and champagne to mark the occasion.

Staff also dropped by to join in the congratulations. When asked about any tips to help us reach such an amazing milestone the advice was “Keep everything natural!” We say hear, hear to that!

Let the Games Begin!

Residents have looked forward to the start of the Winter Olympics and many of them enjoyed watching the Opening Ceremony unfold.

In preparation, our snow scene was put up in the conservatory, Olympic torches were made and we explored some of the events that will be featured during the course of the games.

We also had our own versions of some of the sports, quizzes as well as fun facts which kept everyone  engaged. Just medal winners needed - come on Team GB!

Valentine's Day in full swing at Milford House

‘Making Memories’ lunches and a special Valentine’s Lunch on the 14th were created by our talented chef team and enjoyed by our residents as well as quizzes, a photo booth  and more to keep everyone entertained and of course time to think of and celebrate everyone who means something special to each of us.

Burns Night Celebrations

Residents at Milford House enjoyed a day of Burns festivities. By popular demand there was a Scottish lunch featuring Scotch broth, the traditional main course with 'neeps and tatties' with a delicious cranachan for pudding.During the day the talented chefs whipped up shortbread for elevenses and a surprise for afternoon tea!

The tables and trays around the home were dressed with either Royal Stewart or Black Watch tartan together with posies of heather and the day's activities featured quizzes, poetry and music from north of the border.

Festive Fun at Milford

The Christmas was a busy one for everyone at the home and amongst the traditional events residents enjoyed taking part in the Christmas Photo Booth that did the rounds and of course a visit from Santa!  The home looked incredibly festive with our roaring (virtual) fire in the Conservatory and the 7 beautifully decorated Christmas trees around the home plus so much more.  Our chefs created wonderful festive fare that was enjoyed by everyone and there was much jollity and cracker pulling in the dining rooms.  We admired the handmade decorations created by our residents and of course the amazing Christmas cake that was a true team effort.  Thanks  to everyone who made our Christmas special.
