Activities at Milford House Care Home

The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.

Amazing Alpacas

After an 18 month wait, residents were thrilled to be able to welcome back Wendy and her alpacas, Rufus and Guinness, to Milford. The friendly and adorable pair spent the afternoon meeting residents and, as can be seen, there were smiles all round. We are eagerly awaiting their next visit.

Pet Therapy

Residents and staff at Milford are delighted that Millie the PAT (Pets as Therapy) dog is now able to make regular visits to the home.

A five year old Sprocker, her owner, Ros, says that Millie is the perfect PAT dog, as she far prefers people to other dogs. We couldn’t agree more, and she definitely brings a smile to everyone she meets.

We are all eagerly awaiting her next visit.

Al Fresco Lunches

Some of our residents at Milford House have enjoyed choosing to lunch outside on our terraces in the warmer weather, so much so that we decided to make it a regular event (weather permitting, of course).

We held our first scheduled outdoor meal recently which had a picnic style menu with plenty of choices available for everyone. The menu went down a storm and a lot of fun was had by everyone and we are all looking forward to the next time.

Royal Celebrations

Residents at Milford House celebrated the Queen’s birthday in style with a traditional English cream tea. The conservatory was royally dressed and the afternoon was presided over by Her Majesty herself! Residents enjoyed ‘meeting’ Her Majesty and having their pictures taken with the royal guest.

Willows & Water

Residents have been delighted that we can go out of the home under certain criteria, and this week we have managed to dodge the showers and visit our local spinney alongside the river. Residents relished the fresh air, spring conditions and the crystal clear water.

International Nurses' Day

We had a great celebration of our wonderful nurses. They were all given flowers and chocolates and our residents wrote cards saying what our nurses mean to them, which were put on display.

We also had a special mention for them on Smooth Radio and our residents also produced art in their honour. We worked out that the nurses on duty on the actual day had clocked up 250 years of experience!
