Activities at Milford House Care Home

The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.

Having recently joined the Milford team she is looking forward to getting to know all our residents and to delivering, alongside the rest of the team, an interesting and diverse programme of activities.  She loves being outside and in particular organising trips out of the home and activities and events that take place in our gorgeous gardens.

Life at Milford House Care Home

Wildlife Walk

Residents at Milford House are lifting their spirits by taking walks in our lovely gardens (with the appropriate social distancing). The weather has been gorgeous and, of particular interest, has been our new wildlife garden, which has been worked on over the winter and is now really starting to take shape, as the plants start sprouting now that the warmer weather is here. We are especially lucky here to have such large gardens to enjoy and are making the absolute most of them.

Salisbury Art Trail

Residents at Milford have been enjoying regular art workshops with Creative Minds Salisbury. Apart from the satisfaction of creating their art works, they are also working towards an exhibition of their art work as part of the Salisbury Art Trail, which runs from the 30th May – 14 June.  The home will be one of many venues around the city taking part in the Art Trail, and it will be wonderful the share and display the creativity of our residents. Look out for further details nearer the time!

Creative Seated Dance

Residents are enjoying new seated creative dance sessions led by Debbie who, as well as leading the sessions, begins some of the them with a demonstration of an interpretive jazz dance just to get everyone in the mood. Each session is tailored to the needs of our residents and it is amazing once everyone gets warmed up how much movement and laughter there is. Our sessions are running monthly.

Valentine's Day

Residents and staff joined in a wonderful Valentine's sing-a-long and really got into the mood of the day. There was plenty of joining in, hand-clapping, arm waving and even dancing, along with much jollity as we celebrated the day, with Amanda Parsons leading us with her wonderful vocals. Amanda always dresses the part and today she was in a lovely red and white tea dress with flowers in her hair – a true valentine for all of us!

Activities & Relaxation

At Milford House, we run a variety of activities that encompass both active sessions and those that encourage relaxation, both of which are important to our overall well-being. When the weather is poor, we are focusing on some afternoon relaxation that incorporates relaxing with our lap pets, listening to music and/or watching videos that feature relaxing natural scenes. Hand massages are also a firm favourite.

Fun Afternoon

It may be blowing a gale outside with the advent of storm Brendan, but the residents of Milford House enjoyed a session of movement, music and fun with ‘Alive!’ and ignored the weather!  ‘Alive!’ visit the home once a month with their unique blend of activity that gets everyone involved. This session we even had a dog joining in to the delight of all!
